Chapter 1

Jasmine knew that at the tender age of only twenty one that she was privileged to be working in such a prestigious institute, even if her job was merely data logging. The work being done was top secret, and she had a strong suspicion that some of the technology being studied hadn't originated on Earth. It defied the laws of physics, or maybe our accepted laws didn't apply on far distant worlds.

As time went on she became more and more suspicious, and with familiarity spreading throughout the complex guards began to drop, she overheard snippets of conversations. Words like time travel and transportation surfaced more and more often, and her curiosity urged her to dig deeper into the computer files with which she worked every day.

Jasmine discovered layer upon layer of security, files were encrypted and protected, and her frustration mounted… until the day that she peeped over her supervisor's shoulder and saw the password being typed.

That lunchtime she entered the most secure and secret sector of the mainframe computer, and groaned softly as she read documents confirming her suspicions. The technology had come from another world, one a thousand times more advanced than her own. Scientists were reverse engineering devices that they admitted were beyond their ability to understand.

And then the adventurous and headstrong young woman hit the jackpot.
