Chapter 1

Samantha perched on the bench she’d had made overlooking her own stretch of the Louisiana Red River and sighed. But for her it wasn’t a sound of contentment, her sigh was more of resignation!

She had it all, that’s what her friends believed. She had a stable marriage, a beautiful blonde daughter who was almost her exact double. She had a farm that extended to over five hundred acres of prime land, a stunning home, cars, horses, money… but in her heart she knew that something was missing.

Not just in my heart she added sourly as the thoughts drifted through her mind. I know exactly what’s missing.

She had made a pact with herself not to look back because the past was just too painful. He had deceived her, in the most terrible of ways. Of course she was thinking about Kevin, her husband of just over nineteen years.

Happy years? Not really she admitted. Hers was a marriage born from necessity.

For him Samantha had been no more than a conquest… a challenge. For Samantha, she’d been tipsy, which wasn’t any justification she admitted, but more than that she’d been in pain, and feeling betrayed, and also feeling more than a little vindictive and rebellious.

Kevin was the older man, he was rich, the unmarried son of wealthy land owners, he considered himself a bit of a playboy, but everyone agreed he didn’t have the looks or charisma to carry that title. He was simply money, the kind of guy that relied on daddy’s cash to bail him out of the shit when he’d dropped himself deep. For her penniless ex it was the ultimate kick in the balls, his former love dating the money he could never dream of having!

Well when he knocked Samantha up he really had no idea how far reaching the repercussions would be. Her father had spoken to his father.
