If you’re in a place where it seems like no matter what you have tried it seems not to work and you seem not to be able to get any traction, this book is for you. If you’re living this life and you just simply don’t know your purpose and you’re trying to find it, then The Nitty-Gritty Grind is for you! Please join me as I dare to expose you to what it takes to become successful regardless of where you’re starting from. This is the Nitty-Gritty Grind.

CHAPTER 1

WHAT IS THE

NITTY GRITTY GRIND?

Before we get started let’s define some key terms that will be used throughout this book so we can have perfect clarity on what the Nitty Gritty Grind is about.

Nitty Gritty- the most important aspects or practical details of a subject or situation.

Let's get down to the Nitty Gritty of finding a job (Oxford Dictionary)

Grind -hard dull work.

I personally define the Nitty of Nitty Gritty to be synonymous with meticulous or scrutinous.

Meticulous- showing great attention to detail; very careful and precise.

Scrutinous- disposed to examine closely: INQUISITIVE, SEARCHING

I define the Gritty of Nitty Gritty to be synonymous with Grit.

Grit- courage and resolve; strength of character.

Finagle-ism or Finagle-istic -The creative ability to maximize on every opportunity. It is not manipulation, but EXTREMELY high-level resourcefulness. The ability to find a way to execute.

I also believe that Grit takes consistency, endurance, and perseverance.

When you put it all together, the Nitty Gritty Grind looks like a work ethic that’s strategic, purposeful, resilient, tenacious, precise, and daring!

You already have the Nitty Gritty Grind in you! You just need to dig it up!

There are only 5 ingredients to the Nitty Gritty Grind. Once you uncover the first two ingredients, you can start the journey.

Those two ingredients are, Where and Why? Where do you want to go in life and why do you want to go there?

The How will come later.

The main focus is where and why!

CHAPTER 2

WHAT IS YOUR WHY?

Ask yourself, where do you see yourself two years from now? Where do you see yourself five years from now? Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

The main objective is to pinpoint the desired destination and a valid WHY that is powerful enough to get you there and everything else will do the rest. I cannot answer that question for you. What I can do is let you into my life and show you my where and why and how it all happened. Let’s get down to the Nitty Gritty!

As I write this book, I am 31 years old. I have a beautiful wife and two sons. I purchased my first home at the age of 26 and achieved a 6-figure income (over $100,000 annually). Chalisa and I have been married for nearly a decade.

My son DeMarquis Jr. is 7 years old, and Caleb Joshua is just under a year old. Getting to where I am today has been a grind! A Nitty Gritty Grind! Best of yet, I’m just getting started!

Some of you may say that I haven’t achieved much. Some of you may say that I’m on top of the world.

Being married for over nine years may not be a long time, but when you deal with root issues such as infidelity, abuse, rejection, and much more, a9-year marriage can be more fruitful and healthy than a 30-year marriage. Some of you may think that achieving a 6-figure income is nothing, but when you continue the pages to follow to see how I got here, you’ll see what type of grind it took to achieve it!

Some of you may be reading this and be thinking I wish I could get that 6-figure job or I wish I had enough money to pay my rent next month.

Some of you may be reading this thinking I’m sick and tired of this class and I just wish I could be done with school. Whatever it is that you’re going through, the Nitty Gritty Grind can fix it!

I’m the perfect example of someone that started with the odds stacked against them! I came from a broken home! I never had stability! I went to 13 different schools growing up! I was homeless! I was addicted to drugs and alcohol! I never met my biological father! I can go on and on, regarding how bad I had it growing up, but my main goal is to show you a glimpse of what I went through and how I was able to overcome!
