Matt's best friend Darrin comes into town after spending twenty years in Southern California. He's a good looking stud who makes no bones about how hot he thinks Matt's wife, Chrissie, is. He's a flirt and a womanizer who specializes in bedding only married women.
Something about that turns Matt on and when Daren flirts with Chrissie, he encourages her to flirt back. She is surprised that it turns her on to flirt. As part of the flirting Chrissie dresses a little sexily. Matt accuses her of "Dressing up for her boyfriend" and dares her to dress even sexier than she has. All of this turns both her and Matt on to a point that it becomes addictive and Chrissie discovers she has an exhibitionist streak that runs deep. She makes the effort to exercise it at every opportunity... and not with just Darin.
When Matt tells her that Darin has bet him $500 against permission to have a yearlong affair with her she can't believe he'd do such a thing. The idea begins to occupy her mind. She gets Matt to share the details of the bet:
Darin has a fixed amount of time to seduce her and Matt refuses to disclose that part. The flirting continues; the exhibitionism continues and the subject of the bet comes up between them often.
Chrissie is only human and when such things occupy the human psyche it's only a matter of time before things come to a head and must be put to rest.

The Bet

Tell me again, about this bet you have with Darrin, I said to my husband Matt.

Well, it’s like I said. Darrin told me that he thought he could seduce you in a given length of time and I don’t think so. When I told him he was full of it, he said, ‘Care to put your money where your mouth is?’ I asked him what he meant and he bet me $500 he could. When I told him that there was no way I could afford the $500 on the off chance he won, he told me that if I won, he'd pay me $500 and if I lost I’d have to OK you guys having a yearlong affair.

It’s the affair thing I don’t understand. I mean, in a regular affair there’s at least three people involved; two of them married to each other with one of them having sex on the sly with the third person. Only in this case you’d have to know. I mean, when the time comes up and he doesn’t pay up, you’ll know. So just how would the arrangement work? I shrugged my shoulders. Do we pretend that you don’t know and just sneak off for a quickie whenever we can? Do we openly go out on dates or does he just keep coming over like he has been and we slip off into the bedroom when the urge hits or maybe we’ll just do it on the couch in front of you.
