The Why
In full transparency, the Holy Spirit wouldn’t let me rest until I wrote this book. If it had been up to me alone, I would have taken my secrets to the grave. But I have learned the importance of being obedient to God and of walking by faith. Although sharing my story is frightening, it is also unequivocally rewarding. God, my heavenly Father, has provided the resources and grace I have needed throughout the writing process (as writing is not my area of expertise).
I felt like it was never going to be the right time to share this part of my story, so that is how I knew that I must step out and make the first move. The world we live in has always been a dark place, but nowadays it feels as if humanity has completely lost its way and cannot find it again.
I may not be able to impact everyone, but if I can reach just one person and cause them to reflect on my own experiences, I know that I am walking out my purpose in life. I experienced some of the toughest times trying to figure out who I am. As a selfish creature prone to pride and pleasure, I wanted things my way because my feelings were all that mattered to me.
I know that the topic of this book may be difficult to absorb for some people. I digested and regurgitated it a few times as I sat with it. Ultimately, I chose to surrender and allow God to take over, despite how uncomfortable that feels. This is what released me into peace and has given me the courage needed to publicly share my story.
The Birthright is the story of the redemption of a young woman captivated by the pleasures of our modern world and radically transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This book provides a refreshingly relatable account of one of the most common struggles people in our society are faced with: living according to the law of God in a culture with thousands of alternatives. The testimony describes the sexual struggles of an average middle-class girl growing up in Houston, TX who finds herself in a battle between flesh and spirit. My intent is to encourage others to exchange their guilt and shame for a freedom that cannot be earned, but only received as a gift from God Himself.
My story as the protagonist is that of a born-again Christian who has since dedicated her
