About this ebook

The thing that every soldier here,

Would say is short and sweet,

Go live your life but learn as well,

Don't make this scene repeat.

If there were one thing I would say,

I'd say it with a shout!

This wall's not here to keep us in.

It's there to keep you out.

Author

Brian B. Hawthorne

Bobby G. Wells, writing as Brian B. HawthorneBrian Hawthorne lives with his wife and two children in Maryland. One of those "quiet types" that you would never suspect. As an avid reader and Science Fiction fan, he is following a prescription written by Dr. Isaac Asimov; that any reader, after long enough, will want to write. To that end, he writes for his own entertainment, and that of his readers. With creative exuberance, he tells of relationships, ingenious conveniences, and stubborn human behaviors

    Reflections

    Our Side of the Wall

The souls of heroes are laid down,

    Like bricks in ordered rows,

To make a wall, an edifice,

    A structure that still grows.

Upon this side, stern silence reigns,

    The code of fallen men,

It takes a focused feeling to,

    Receive our thoughts again.

The thing that every soldier here,

Would say is short and sweet,

Go live your life but learn as well,

    Don’t make this scene repeat.

If there were one thing I would say,

I’d say it with a shout!

This wall’s not here to keep us in.

It’s there to keep you out.

    Bobby G. Wells . . . . . May 26, 2008

    Someone

    He is a regular fellow,

In a place he doesn’t belong.

Not that he isn’t welcome there,

But the time and place are wrong.

    Anger is the morning meal,

    For half the local folks,

And fear makes up his breakfast,

    Along with nervous jokes.

    The weaponry is out there,

And some of it has your name.

Your courage can control your fear,

But rockets don’t play that game.

And it’s Wham! Bam! Where did that come from?

And fate is looking at me, through the barrel of a gun.

I’m hit! I’m hurt! But I am still alive.

I’m getting myself out of here. Please someone help me drive.

The bomb has landed in me,

It’s safe and warm and snug.

I look around at friends of mine.

I know they want to bug.

They take a breath of courage,

And stand to see me through,

I’d like to think that in their place,

That’s just what I would do.

    The Medic knows the danger,

    But he’s an angel man.

He knows I’m fighting for my life,

And he’ll do what he can.

And it’s Wham! Bam! Where did that come from?

And fate is looking at me, through the barrel of a gun.

I’m hit! I’m hurt! But I am still alive.

I’m getting myself out of here. Please someone help me drive.

They rush to get me airborne,

A chance no one should take.

But they are men who stood with me,

They do it for my sake.

Well, some may know I’m married,

    A father, gonna be.

But others only see the blood,

And take a chance on me.

    I’m no one really special,

    No different from the rest,

I guess my only role to play,

Is to put them to the test.

And it’s Wham! Bam! Where did that come from?

And fate is looking at me, through the barrel of a gun.

I’m hit! I’m hurt! But I am still alive.

I’m getting myself out of here. Please someone help me drive.

They got me to the clinic.

    They got the weapon out.

They took it down the road a piece,

To let it have its shout.

    The anger
