I don’t understand grief or loss. Pain that is triggered by a song, street, place as a memory you thought you’d stuffed down suddenly shoots to the front of your mind. I don’t think we’ll understand it in this life. But I know we’ll experience it. All of us. And something about the holidays stirs up those memories, subtlety forcing us to live what we just want to forget.
