About this ebook

In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna has not only explained many concepts but has also made many promises. These are promises which have not been highlighted as such by commentators and acharyas in the past. 81 of such promises have been identified and explained in this book, with 81 corresponding jokes, proving the author’s “Ek shlok Ek joke” motto.

    IMPORTANCE OF THE PROMISE

If there is one sloka, after reading which, a person need not read the Bhagavad Gita or any other scripture, then this is that sloka. You may be shocked at this, but just consider this: What is the purpose of human life as stated in all the Sanatana Dharma scriptures, Vedas, Puranas, epics and Upanishads? It is: To obtain Mukti, Moksha or liberation or freedom from birth-death cycle, or going back to Lord Krishna. How to achieve it, is what we are all searching. If, the eligibility to get that ultimate fruit is given to us in a platter, then is there any need to seek any other method? We should really become unaffected by happiness and sorrow and such similar dualities like gain-loss, pleasure-pain, success-defeat, praise-abuse etc. It is a tough task, but since we decided to have no other dharma, technique or guidance to divert us, we have all the time in the world to pursue this practice and try to reach Krishna.

    IMPORTANCE OF THE PROMISE

To the Supreme Lord, who is the fund of knowledge and the person who had devised what is right and what is not, Arjuna told in Chapter 1, sloka 36 that sin will overcome him if he kills Duryodhana and others in the war. The Lord need not answer him because in that sloka, Arjuna himself says that his enemies are, ‘aatataayina’, meaning those who have committed serious atrocities, the punishment for whom is death sentence without any inquiry. Yet, because of His grace and mercy, Krishna patiently explains to him. He is fighting the battle as a matter of Kshatriya duty and no sin would incur to anybody who is doing his duty. It was a war fought for establishment of dharma and so he should fight as a matter of duty. He should consider pleasure and pain, victory and defeat, loss and gain and all the dualities to be the same. This is a promise of the Supreme Lord to all of us all. This is
