The Faheys were a family of five children, with the youngest being Anne Marie. In 1974, their mother, Kathleen, was diagnosed with lung cancer. She was just in her early forties, and she still had five children at home to raise.

    #5

Kathleen Fahey died on March 16, 1975, leaving her eight children, Anne Marie being the youngest. Her brother Brian said that for a long time, Anne Marie didn’t understand that their mother wasn’t coming back.

    #6

The family was left to fend for themselves without their mother. They were taught how to survive in a world where they were virtually on their own. They were taught to be doers who would make a place for themselves in the world.

    #7

The Fahey family was torn apart by the loss of their mother. Robert Sr. seemed to have given up, and the only thing holding them together was the hope that he would get himself together before they lost everything.

    #8

Louis Capano, Sr. was born in a small Italian mountain village in Calabria in 1923. He emigrated to Delaware with his brothers in 1930, and grew up in a new world. He was known for his honesty and his desire to do a job to the satisfaction of his foreman.

    #9

Louis and Marguerite’s first child was a girl named Marian, born in 1944. They raised their family in the modest little house out on Route 13. Lou’s first office was a small place, but that all changed with the tremendous demand for housing after World War II.

    #10

Lou Capano was a builder who was well-known for his work ethic and integrity. He built the houses that his clients wanted too good, and the building business is too cyclical to last.

In 1963, Lou had a heart attack, and his son Gerard was born healthy. However, the family’s finances were soon to be tested as the real estate market began to crash.

    #12

The Capano brothers went to Catholic schools, and the family went to St. Anthony’s Church. The brothers were always first in everything they did, but their younger brother Louie idolized them.

    #13

The Capanos had always invited their parish priests, especially Father Roberto Balducelli, who had been pastor at St. Anthony’s for twenty-five years, home for dinner or for weekends at the shore. The boys’ friends were welcome in the Capano home.

    #14

In prep school, Tommy seemed unattainable for most girls. He was polite and friendly, but it seemed a given that he would choose a girl that everyone wanted. Tommy was the leader of the group, and he would keep them together for reunions for decades to come.

    #15

The Faheys’ home life was unpredictable, to say the least. They had to hide their insecurities and sorrows from their father, who would often be drunk. They learned to block out his rages, but they didn’t want to have their friends know how bad things were.

    #16

Anne Marie had love from her siblings and a few relatives, but she had little else. She had dreams of a better future, and she made it through the present by drawing comfort from her grandmother.

    #17

Anne Marie had needed someone like that desperately. She had lost her mother, and
