Marie Hilley was picked as Prettiest Girl at Quintard Junior High in 1941. She was already a woman, with the big, glistening eyes of a woman, and the legs of a woman. She was four years younger, not quite fourteen, but Frank knew he was going to marry her one day.

After the death of his wife, Ernest Frazier, and the stillbirth of their second child, Huey and Lucille never had any more children. They wanted to do everything they could for the one they had, and from the time she was a small girl, Marie always got what she wanted.

Marie was a sweet-natured girl, but she was also very stubborn. She got away with things that other children wouldn’t be allowed to do. She was always demanding things, and when she was denied, she would throw a tantrum.

Marie was a very spoiled child, and her parents responded to every wish she had. She was always getting new things, while her cousin Robbie was always wearing hand-me-downs. Eventually, a friend of Robbie’s parents noticed the contrast and made sure to even things out.

Marie’s family moved to Anniston, and she went to Quintard Junior High School. She was friendly with some of the girls in her class, but most of her time was taken up by the boys. She was monopolized by an older boy named Calvin Robertson.

Marie was in the eighth grade when her grandmother Susie Meads became sick late in 1947. She was diagnosed with cancer, and the family took care of her. Marie and her sister would come out from Anniston to help take care of her.

Marie Frazier, the woman who would become like a mother to Robbie, told Freeda Hilley, who had not met her until Marie was approaching high school, that she had been neglected as a child. Her parents abandoned her to the care of her grandmother.

Marie Frazier was extremely devoted to her best friend, Rachel Knight, who was the queen of her high school class. After high school, Rachel moved away from Anniston, and Marie would go visit her old friend sometimes taking her daughter, Carol.
