    The Joneses moved to Metamora, Illinois, a small town about the same size as Havana, when Pam was in her last year in high school. Debora spent her freshman and sophomore years in Metamora’s small high school, where her academic excellence shone even brighter.

    Debora was a cheerleader and a valedictorian at Peoria High School. She was headed for the University of Illinois, where she had never had any trouble getting grades. She was a natural at chemistry and set her sights on becoming a chemical engineer.

    Medical school is a challenge for the most dedicated, motivated students. Debora was not interested in medicine, but she had decided to become a doctor because her parents were living in the Kansas City area.

    After she graduated from med school in 1975, Debora began a hedonistic lifestyle. She had never traveled, never taken long vacations, and now she did. She was in her mid-twenties and had been in school since she was five.

    When Michael Farrar met Debora, she was a highly attractive woman who seemed to be looking for a good, stable man. She found him to be a good person, and they started to date.

    Duane and Debora’s marriage was legally over in December 1978. Duane was awarded the silver Jaguar in their divorce settlement, but he would say many years later that he felt like he had been a convenience. Mike Farrar met Duane Green only once, and did not realize until later that he had actually lived in the house.
