    On March 8, 1964, the Burbank Police received a call from a hysterical man who said his wife had been shot. When officers arrived at 315 South Myers Street, they found two people shot. The man’s wife was dying, and he had been shot as well.

    When the frantic caller hung up on Janet the second time, she leaned back in her chair and frowned. She thought it was strange that the man had answered the phone so calmly at first, then become hysterical again after a second.

    The police officer, Rick Medlin, was the closest officer to the man when he shouted, Help me! I’ve been shot! Medlin immediately assumed the man was a suspect, and began shouting commands at him.

    Paramedics Kelly Chulik and Jeff Williams were the first to arrive at the scene. They saw the victim lying in a pool of blood. It did not look good. The woman’s eyes were open and lifeless, and her face was covered in dark red blood.
