    At 9:10 P. M. , the sheriff ’s deputies arrived at the scene. As they stood at the top of the driveway, waiting for their colleagues, a white Ford Ranger truck with a license plate that read STOKAGE pulled up. The driver, in his early fifties, introduced himself as Jim Knapp.

    While the other deputies went inside the house, Boan spoke to Jim through his driver’s-side window. Jim said he had been at the Bridle Path house until about 1 or 2 P.
