#1 In 2010, Dawna’s next-door neighbor, Matt Hoffman, began to change. He became more irritable and moody. He would catch squirrels and take them into his house to butcher them and eat them. His girlfriend began to fear for her safety.

#2 Hoffman’s girlfriend and son moved out of his house, and he began to spend more and more time in a hammock in a tree. He seemed to be obsessed with trees. By now, Hoffman gave Dawna the creeps.

#3 Hoffman was a man of action, and when he felt those urges, he was a man of action. He knew about a place in the town of Howard named Apple Valley, where he would wait until all the people in the house had left for the day, and then he would sneak inside and take whatever he wanted.
