Standing outside to have a cigarette, Kay Raines would hear the crowd inside roar with cheers.
The University of Alabama football team had scored another goal.
Kay knew this because she’d become a lucky charm amongst the supporters.
Whenever she went out to smoke, the university team would score a touchdown.
It had become a running joke between her and her friends.
So, when she decided to quit smoking, they joked about putting laxatives in her drink to make her go to the toilet more often.
It was all in good fun and Kay loved a laugh.
Her sense of humour was what made her so popular.
Football was Kay’s life andwas fiercely loyal to her old alma mater – she loved it.
