#1 Wayne’s father, Calvin Eugene Gene Ford, was a soldier who was stationed in Germany in 1957 when he met Karen. They began dating, and Karen was just sixteen years old.
#2 When Karen and Gene were married, she was two months pregnant with Rodney. The ceremony took place in her grandmother’s town, Höchstadt, presided over by the mayor. Karen wore a midcalf dress with a black-and-white floral print.
#3 When they were first married, Karen would want to go out dancing, and this caused some barroom incidents because she flirted with other men. One night, Gene told her he needed to go back to the barracks. She said she would stay, and he threw her over his shoulder and dumped her in the car.
#4 Karen’s accusation that she got pregnant that night was true. She never said anything about it to anyone until years later. However, the damage had already been done because according to Wayne’s defense team, Karen told him at some point that he was the product of rape.
