    Homecoming - Davion Farmer

    Forward  Keisha & Byron Wicks

One Saturday afternoon in the summer of 2017, two newly positioned youth pastors decided to go door to door in the city of Bellwood, to inform the community about an outdoor Sunday school program soon to come. We knocked on the door and then answered a soft-spoken young teen with his little brother lurking in the background. He brought his brother to the park where we played games, told children about Jesus, and blessed them with snacks to go home with. That young teen was Davion with his younger brother Malachi who would then come to the program every week.

We and Davion Farmer could not have had a more disparate life experience. He was born differently abled. We were born in a state of what is considered normal by the world we live in. What would bring us together is knowing who we are in Christ and the love that He has for us to share with each other.

The weekly trip to the park and text messages to Davion’s mom brought us closer to the family. We did not look at them as a charity case in need but a family who we could grow to be a part of his already noticeably supportive village, willing to help out wherever a need makes itself known.

As we got to know Davion, we immediately realized how incredibly talented he is. He made rap beats for us to use for Sunday school songs and would later design graphics for us to use for our social media accounts. When we needed help setting up our Sunday school set or a Bluetooth speaker, he was always prepared to serve and assist.

Fast forward to now, 2022, Davion has been with us for 5 years and every year we hope we have been a blessing to him as much as he has been to us. We want nothing but the best for him. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. His solution-oriented mentality, integrity, level of commitment and resilience even challenges us as community and ministry leaders to persevere when things do not go as planned. There is nothing that he cannot do in this world, and he keeps showing us this daily.

The connection we have with Davion is simply amazing. The relationship grew organically as we continued to sow into his life. Anytime our doors were open, or we had an event Davion was right there. He became a part of our family spirituality and. Davion is a very genuine person, and we are blessed to know and work with. We appreciate all of the things that he does for the ministry and his
