CHAPTER 1
A LOVELY DAY
It’s a beautiful warm Sunday Afternoon, Kim and Trish invited me to a Backyard BBQ. I was excited to get out of the house. I had spent all week in the house with my 2-year-old daughter. Her Father was not in any way involved in her upbringing. I was her mother and father. Mark and I were high school sweethearts, we dated for 2 years. The summer after his graduation we spent every waking moment together. The week before he left for college, we decided that we were ready to take the relationship to the next level which led to me getting pregnant. When I told him, I was pregnant during one of his visits, he said he wasn’t ready to be a father and stopped returning my calls and didn’t make many visits to his parents. A year later his parents were killed in a car accident and I never heard from him again. Rumor has it, he has about 5 other illegitimate children.
I decided that I would wear my new sundress that clung to my curves. I took one last look in the mirror before heading out. My Carmel skin tone and my hazel eyes complimented the Earth tone dress that highlighted all my best assets. My mother agreed to babysit.
We were at least a block away from her aunt’s house and you could already hear the music. The party had definitely started, and I couldn’t wait to get my dance on. My song was blasting from the speaker system that was set up in the backyard. Trish grabbed my arm and pulled me to the dance floor. Girl you look good won’t you back that ass up
by Juvenile were the lyrics that everyone seems to have shouted out at the same time. Everyone was dancing, eating, and having a good time. We hadn’t been there and hour when Trish and Kim leaned over to whisper to me, they were going to the front of the house to smoke some weed. Since they knew that wasn’t something that I wanted to participate in, they dismissed themselves.
A couple of hours had passed since we arrived, and the party was still in full effect. I danced to every song and my feet were aching and it was definitely time for a break. I found a seat next to one of the tables where the food was located. I guess y’all started without me well all of y’all can kiss my ass!
I turned to see who could be so rude. It was a tall, dark, skinny, and not to mention beyond intoxicated man. I went to find Kim and Trish and told them what just happened, and It was time to go.
Trish and I were watching TV at her house when Kim walks in. I have a friend I want you to meet. I said to her as a joke as long as it’s not that fool from the BBQ. I was very reluctant at first, Kim doesn’t have a good track record on setting people up on blind dates. The last person she hooked me up with was not only married but had 4 children and never worked a day in his life, to top it all off he lived with his mama in a one bedroom apartment; He had the nerve to call me to ask if I would come over, as he had the sofa to himself. I told him to forget he ever knew me. However, he was handsome. That’s why you should never ask Kim if he’s cute. She said that he was nice, and he loved kids and he’s employed. You had me at
he’s employed." I was sold since it seemed as though every man that asked me for my number was in no way employed. I told her to give him my number and tell him he could call me after nine tonight, I had a term paper I wanted to finish. I was taking some classes at the local community college.
My phone rings at exactly 9 o’clock. I wasn’t finished with my paper so, I let it go to voicemail. It rings again about 5 minutes later and I again let voicemail get it. It rings again and again finally I pick it up and yell into the receiver, WHO ARE YOU AND WHY DO YOU KEEP CALLING MY PHONE! Dang! You ain’t got to holla. Kim gave me your number. Is this Rocco? Yea, is this Sin-a-dy? It’s pronounced Cynady like the president that was assassinated in Downtown Dallas. It’s just spelled differently. I know you didn’t call to get a spelling and history lesson so what’s up. Well, Cynady tell me something about yourself. What do you want to know? Anything, everything. Why don’t you start first? No problem he said. I’m 26 I have no children; I’ve never been married and have my own place. Oh, and I do have a job. Kim told me that was one of your requirements. One of many, I pointed out. OK now your turn. Well I’m 20 I have a 2-year-old daughter that is a handful, but I love her with all my heart. So, if that’s a problem you may as well hang up now! Wait a minute, I love kids and I knew you had a daughter before I called you, Kim told me. Sorry I get defensive when it comes to my daughter. Understandable, If I had kids, I would feel the same way. So why don’t you have any kids? Never found the right woman, I guess. I travel quite a bit for my job, so haven’t had a lot of time to date. Really, so what do you do for a living? I’m a Security Analyst. That sounds exciting. It’s not as exciting as its sounds.
We ended up talking for hours. We told each other stories about the people we’ve dated and how we ended up in some crazy relationships. We had so much in common and he was so easy to talk to.
