    Introduction

What I have written in this book of mantras, I received somewhere along my life’s journey; we stand on the shoulders of giants. What we have heard and regurgitate is plagiarism; what we have learned and integrated is shared wisdom. Nothing is uniquely mine. Before I could read, there was a barrier between author’s experiences and insights and my ability to access and relate to it. When I crossed that barrier and learned to read, author’s world became one with mine.

In this book, I share with you the gems of my direct experiences, shaped by the wisdom of all who have influenced me. Among these influences are my clients. Mahalo for your trust, your wisdom, and your open expression to growth. Mahalo also for sharing your magnificent journey, every one of you has touched my life in deep and meaningful ways.

I have also been guided by teachers such as Martin Luther King Jr., Louise Haye, Mooji, Ram Das, Katherine Woodward Thomas (author of Conscious Uncoupling), Ester Perel, Terri Cole (author of Boundary Boss), Richard Rohr and countless gift carriers of new thought and spirituality. Where I can reference the exact contribution, I will provide quotations and source references. Otherwise, I humbly acknowledge the presence of these teachers in my discoveries from intimate and direct experience in my soul.

Why have a spiritual practice? No human on earth escapes the heart break of loss, personal struggles of self-doubt, fears of all sorts and relationship difficulties. The mixture of joys and sorrow are inherent in each one of us. It is possible to experience it all with less trauma and turbulence; this is where having a practice of self-aligned with spirit is helpful. To know yourself as an evolving being allows the experience without catastrophic meaning, self-incrimination, blame, and deep scarring. When we practice stillness, listening to the silence and calming the nervous system, we move through life’s challenges, harvesting and receiving the wisdom as a gift. Everything is happening for you not to you.

My choices have been shaped and guided by my council of women. I have decided not to mention names here, we are an intimate circle of kind, loving, intelligent and wise females who have not gone un-scathed by life. Women who have refused to crumble under the weight of sorrow, disappointment, and loss. Women who hold each other up and provide listening, suggestions, and perspective which I trust.

I have been given a leg up out of the illusion of fantasy through the painful and joyful union and ending of my intimate relationships as I reflect on my part in the dance we shared of agreements and soul contracts from pure love.

The intention of these mantras from Maui are to serve and support your discoveries of channels to freedom from fear, anxiety, depression, and patterns of unhealthy behaviors. As you use these mantras as your daily food for thought; ask, is what I read here going to assist? If not, give it no attention. Stay in the witnessing presence of your own experience, in the silent perceiving heart space. Don’t give it to the mind; no need to suppress or control the mind, rather, stay in the heart and behold the beauty of God.

The sighting of the sun in the morning brings in a new day. Our earth ship has rotated and laying before us are fresh opportunities. Our atmosphere is filled with energy as the birds sing themselves into their bodies and the bees swagger their dance mapping their duties for the day. We too are bodies of energy. Our emotional energetic field can become blocked by disappointments and harbored resentments. We only harm ourselves when we hold onto stories that victimize us. It is human to absorb a certain amount of other people’s projections and accusations, yet a practice of cleansing and clearing renders these experiences temporary and brief. Just as the earth tilts towards the east and the sun is proximate beneath the planet, we are shaded by the earth’s shadow we call night, let emotional disturbances fade away and let new light dawn when the sun once again shines above us. Light is love dear one and when we are conscious of our true nature we let that love shine brightly for ourselves and all beings around us! This mantra was influenced by, Harriet Witt

In every life there is an assortment of experiences. Some joyfully captured in pictures memorizing connection, celebration, and happy times. There is also sadness and loss sprinkled throughout every life. Sad reflections of regrettable reactive behaviors that created wedges between loved ones can haunt. Don’t live there beloved, go beyond the regret and resentments, and dig the gem of wisdom up. Clean up the messiness of the past through authentic forgiveness for self and others. Holding a grudge harm, yourself and interferes with the flow of good. We are blessed with new beginnings; our lives are made ever new . Today see through the heart’s lens; each being in your now moment is a gift no matter how the mind perceives them; beyond the mind shines a divine being to play with!

    Lovingly,

    River

The world is inhabited by vast confusion and irrational reactionary action. People everywhere are rule bound, rule breakers, rule upholders and self-assigned authorities. Fear is masked by anger everywhere. A man trying to force two women to remove their hijabs at a subway station, fearful of the unknown. A man threatened women in the forest to submit to his male authority, fearful of his own insecurities. We need to align our desire for freedom with commitment. Commitment to heal our irrational reactions. When we humbly trust in the greater good for all involved with love and kindness, we respond as a guiding agent. Where does the harshness lead us? Change begins with you and me dear one; we are the small wings that send vibration of tidal waves for a kinder world. When you encounter angry people see their fears and hold them in compassion; it is the only way to beget peace.

    Lovingly,

    River

The healthy human being is a social being. Since March 11/2020 our planet has universally experienced imposed isolation, social distancing, restrictions from gathering to worship, from attend to our sick and dying, from celebrating graduations, birthdays, weddings etc. many humans have faced profound loneliness. I have come to realize that I can choose where I place my attention; towards to opportunities or the lack. Remember dear one, everything is happening for you not to you. There has been considerable focus on the benefits of meditation and self-knowledge. Time has been afforded to us all to refocus our attention on quieter activities which may have been put on the someday calendar. As our social movements continue to be somewhat limited, find yourself. Be creative in deepening your relationship with the one you can’t live without, you! Walk in nature, take up yoga, read more, take an online course, be more present in your media contacts. Looking through the lens of opportunity see yourself shifting your mood through optimism and possibilities. Life loves you! And so do I.

    Lovingly,

    River

Remember who you are. You are cherished beyond your wildest dreams. Once you remember that, truest alignment with the flow of all good things begins to be a conscious reality for you. If you are convinced that you are bad, wrong, and unworthy, you create a vibration in your field that attracts experiences that affirm your belief. Once you forget to pay full attention to your mind, and the stories of shame, you realign yourself and shift your vibration that matches a life realizing your worth. Start with reminding yourself that you are loved by you, feel emotionally supported, affirmed, and celebrated and vibrational matches affirming your belief about yourself will flow easily to you. You are what you think, with your thoughts you create the world. Buddha

Martin Luther King Jr. wrote, a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive and that love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice.

In this quote, the word, anemic, means bloodless, pale, failing to thrive, weakened. Think of love energized by a powerful force fueled with passion, commitment, hope, vision for your own life as well as for the lives of others. Power over others is bossy, oppressive, opinionated, and divisive. This type of power points to secret inner fears and insecurity. Love infused power is stable, strong, self-assured and flush with life blood. Align yourself with the power of love that is within you and around you.

    Lovingly,

    River

The Essential and United self. Life asks us to be whole. Sovereign unto oneself is to be fully stable and strong, available to serve. When we misalign ourselves with demands and expectations from an external source we become servants. I have direct experience with this. I became a servant to another’s life; I betrayed my own purpose and path out of fear that I could not provide the essentials my life required.
