    Introduction

    A little about me

When I was about 10 years old, I had two career options in mind. I was either going to be a scientist or a writer. Once I got to college and discovered that chemistry was basically maths in disguise, it was a wrap on my white lab coat dreams. Writer it was!

As was true back then, there are still no courses or degrees that teach you how to be a successful writer – and by ‘successful’ I mean able to afford fun things like food and rent and weather-appropriate shoes. So, I worked it out myself.

After more than 10 years as copywriter, with six of those as a freelance contractor (as well as an editorialist, screenwriter, essayist and short story writer) I’d say I’m doing OK. With a mortgage at 27 years old (by myself in London), huge clients like Barclays, Thomson Reuters (Refinitiv) and NOW TV, and a career I’m proud of – I’m delighted to share some of what I’ve learned.

My goal is to show you the simple steps to writing copy that sings, and most importantly – that sells.

    About you

This guide is written for entrepreneurs and small business owners who have a B2C (business-to-consumer) business – in other words, small businesses who are selling their products or services directly to customers.

Lots of this information will be incredibly useful for B2B (business-to-business) small business owners too – but keep in mind there’ll be certain parts that are less relevant.

And if you’re just starting out and only have your business idea, this guide is for you as well.
