    A Man's Plight 2 - Jamell Crouthers

    Introduction

Thank you for taking the time to purchase this book and read it. The goal behind this book is to talk about men’s issues and struggles that we deal with everyday. This book is to have more discussions on this, understand what’s going on, get you to think and know that it’s not about being right, it’s about being understood.

I hope this book does its job and justice and it’s hard to write these stories but they must be told. My goal is to be a voice for all men in today’s world who deal with so much mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Enjoy the journey!

    Toxic Masculinity

Living in a world where the title of this chapter is prevalent,

Sometimes I wonder what to think of what it exactly means.

It’s nothing short of a negative connotation to demean and belittle men,

I start to wonder if I should fall into the narrative or let it go.

I deal with my own demons everyday and how this world operates,

Wondering who the hell created this concept of toxic masculinity.

It’s tiring and old seeing this being pushed all over social media,

It’s also in talking spaces among people and I can’t deal anymore.

Ready to lash out and flip out on people on social media platforms,

But somehow, it’s what they want and it causes more separation between men and women.

I refuse to fall into the narrative as there are good men in the world,

I’m not perfect but I would consider myself to be one of the good men left in this hookup, ‘don’t care’ culture.

My struggle is to break from the story lines of ‘men ain’t shit,’

It’s easy to say the common things that make us look bad.

Exerting my energy into this will do no justice,

I’m already dealing with enough in my life as it is.

Oh, my apologies, my name is George and I’m in my early 30s,

I’m still trying to find myself, who I am in a world with expectations to have it altogether.

I’m nowhere near, having it altogether that is nowhere a reality,

This manliness perspective from so many people is beyond me at this point.

I have to be mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually strong,

When I show any sign of weakness, I’m not fit to operate in this world.

Different races are broken down into how we are perceived as men,

One is weaker than the other because of their behaviors, culture, how they were raised, etc.

I’m not here to break down who is considered, stronger,

That’s not the goal of this story, it’s more of breaking out of this concocted mindset the world has infiltrated us to think.

We’ve gotten lost in the fact that we’re all human beings at the end of the day,

The majority of us are products of our environments and it makes us who we are as men.

Some are stronger than us in different facets, but the reality is,

There’s no man that’s strong physically, mentally,
