    #1

The Foundations section is about building a solid foundation for your life and social skills. It is a very powerful tool, but you must understand what you’re trying to build before you start using it.

    #2

Read the guide in order, practice what you learn, and don’t go it alone. Ask friends, family, and mentors to help you with your social skills journey.

    #3

Knowing where you are and where you want to go is important in social skills. It helps you understand your current social strengths and limitations, and how those strengths and limitations affect your life.

    #4

Your social strengths are the positive elements you bring to relationships and social interactions. They can be social skills, but they don’t have to be. Being loyal to your friends or having a genuine desire to get to know others both count as social strengths, even if they might not be social skills.

    #5

To improve your social skills, you must first decide what you want to achieve. Are you trying to make a new friend, deepen your relationship with a specific friend, or just have fun at a social event. Then, identify the people who can assist you on your journey, and keep yourself motivated.

    #6

Physical fear is when your body activates the fear response even though there is no real danger. Your body doesn’t understand the difference, but you do. You can enjoy a scary movie because you know the difference between a harmless movie monster and the real danger of a bear.

    #7

Social interaction is supposed to be fun, and failure is not a big deal. If you mess up in one social interaction, no permanent harm will be done. Take a deep breath, remind yourself that nobody was mauled by a bear, and go strike up a conversation with someone new.

    #8

Remember that social anxiety is only physical fear, and you can overcome it by taking small, steady steps towards your goal.
