About this ebook

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book.

Book Preview: #1 Fun is a difficult word to define. We often use the word to describe any activity that we perceive as unrelated to work. But this use of fun categorizes activities more by what they are not than by the specific characteristics that they share.

#2 The word fun is extremely elusive, and yet we all know what it feels like. It is a biological drive to seek it out, and yet it resists all analysis.

#3 I analyzed my own experiences through the lens of positive psychology to identify possible elements that might be definitional to the experience of True Fun. I then asked people to describe a fun event or experience they would love to organize or be a part of in the future.

#4 Fun is the feeling you get when you’re doing something you enjoy. It is a combination of laughter and creation and celebration. It is unadulterated joy, and it is imprinted on my DNA.

    #1

Fun is a difficult word to define. We often use the word to describe any activity that we perceive as unrelated to work. But this use of fun categorizes activities more by what they are not than by the specific characteristics that they share.

    #2

The word fun is extremely elusive, and yet we all know what it feels like. It is a biological drive to seek it out, and yet it resists all analysis.

    #3

I analyzed my own experiences through the lens of positive psychology to identify possible elements that might be definitional to the experience of True Fun. I then asked people to describe a fun event or experience they would love to organize or be a part of in the future.

    #4

Fun is the feeling you get when you’re doing something you enjoy. It is a combination of laughter and creation and celebration. It is unadulterated joy, and it is imprinted on my DNA.

    #5

True Fun is the confluence of playfulness, connection, and flow. When these three states occur at the same time, we experience True Fun. It’s simple enough in theory, but to understand it fully, we must dissect each of those elements on their own.

    #6

True Fun can only occur when people are being playful. By playfulness, I mean a spirit of lightheartedness and freedom. When people are being playful, they sparkle.

    #7

True Fun is a special, shared experience with someone else. It can occur when you feel unusually connected to your physical environment, the activity you’re participating in, a pet, or even your own body.

    #8

The term flow is used in psychology to describe when you are fully engaged in your present experience and lose track of the passage of time. Playfulness, connection, and flow are all states that lead to positive emotions, such as achievement, joy, satisfaction, happiness, and awe.

    #9

To have True Fun, we must shed our inhibitions and formal façades, which is why people report feeling in touch with their authentic selves when they have it. And the three elements of fun are playfulness, connection, and flow, which explains why people can have completely different experiences
