    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    CHAPTER 1

I'm Ned and I travel around the country reviewing cheese shops for a living. It's an obscure job and most people are confused when I try to explain it to them. No one understands how I'm able to support myself with what they assume is a meager income. Doesn't matter to me though. It's my niche and the less viable people think it is, the more money and opportunity there is for me in the space.

There are gourmet cheese shops worth visiting in pretty much any city with a population higher than 250,000. Since I'm a gregarious sort and come from an urbane background, I have friends and family in many of the major cities of the country. Thus, no matter where I travel I usually have a place that I can crash at. This is one way I keep costs down.

I noted the garden flag proclaiming the man of the house's prowess with the grill, and had a chuckle.

At the front door I paused for a moment, checking myself out with the front-facing camera of my phone. I was a handsome fellow, as always. My brunette hair was perfectly coiffed and held in place with a mild scented spray. I had lightly applied foundation to even my skin tone and there was a touch of shade at my brows to accentuate my manly features. My light blue collared shirt was neat and unwrinkled, tucked into my charcoal pants to flatter my trim, muscular waistline. I am certainly ready to meet my old college friend, I thought. Boyfriend or no, I'll blow her out of the water with my rugged good looks.

I rang the doorbell and gave a few quick raps at the door for good measure. I heard footsteps steadily approaching. I couldn't wait to see how the years had treated Stephanie.

To my displeasure, a man greeted me. He was blond like Stephanie and on the petite side,
