There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting. -- Buddha

    Introduction

Welcome to Turbaned Gurus, Sing-Song Mantras and Body Contortions? 11 Truth A Yoga Beginner Must Absolutely Know About Yoga. This is Volume 1 of this Yoga for beginners series. The first Volume includes 11 Yoga lessons and truths that a Yoga beginner should be aware of before even getting started.

My name is Juliana Baldec and I have been inspired by my sister Alecandra Baldec to get started with this wonderful discipline of Yoga.

I have been applying my daily yoga ritual for about three months now, but I still consider myself a Yoga beginner. I am so happy that I followed my big sister's suggestions to get started with this daily yoga ritual because it truly transformed my lifestyle, health and happiness.

I enjoy doing it so much that I decided to motivate and encourage other yoga beginners to get started with their own daily yoga ritual and routine, too.

Practicing yoga does not take much time out of your schedule, and if you'd like to learn some cool time management tricks that apply to a healthy lifestyle that includes disciplines like yoga and/or meditation then I highly recommend my sister's book series that you can find on Amazon as well.

She calls it her Daily Ritual Yoga and Meditation Lifestyle series. You can check it out right here. Just type in the following search string to check out her books.

Alecandra Baldec's Yoga & Meditation lifestyle books

She also was the one who inspired me to write this beginner's Yoga book because beginners are always questioning her with the same type of ignorant questions and some of her yoga students even question the discipline of Yoga as a whole. She told me that the Yoga students who are beginners are very critical about everything that relates to Yoga and hence the title of the book: Turbaned Gurus, Sing-Song Mantras and Body Contortions? 11 Truth A Yoga Beginner Must Absolutely Know About Yoga.

She gets questions like: What are the true benefits of Yoga? Does it really work?, Where does it come from?, What exactly does it do for me?, What are the differences of the techniques and poses?, What is the best technique for a beginner?, Can I beat stress with Yoga?, etc.

Alecandra already writes books that are targeted to more advanced yoga and meditation techniques so this is how I got involved in this exciting book project and the book is designed to answer all the questions and shed truth on everything that a beginner should know about the wonderful and fascinating world of Yoga. All the answers that a Yoga beginner might ask in the beginning are answered as I go through each lesson. I have to cover over 30 lessons in order to answer the most critical questions and this is why I decided to make a series of this book. The first Volume is going to cover the first 11 lessons, the second Volume is going to cover the next 11 lessons and the third Volume is covering the remaining lessons.

There are other books that talk about Yoga for beginners, but the focus of this book is different because it does not talk about a certain Yoga topic in a boring, drawn out and long winded way, but it gives you a quick and snappy lesson to read and enjoy.

To make the reading process insightful and inspirational, I have also added some fascinating facts and stories about Yoga and I give you some of my own experiences at the end of each lesson. These are the most valuable nuggets that I have gotten out of my own daily Yoga ritual and I am considering myself a Yoga beginner so you might get some additional nuggets out of the book.

Each yoga lesson includes some inspirational stories that I personally associate with each aspect of yoga and takeaways that you must absolutely know about as a beginner.

The important thing is to get a quick overview of all the aspects that relate to Yoga so that you can make an informed decision about your own future with Yoga.

A beginner of Yoga only needs a short and inspirational lesson so that he or she is enabled and empowered to get started ASAP.

This book is designed for Yoga beginners who like to get started with Yoga but who do not know exactly where to get started yet.

This book helps clarify a confused mind or a mind with not enough information about Yoga. In short it gives you everything you need to know about Yoga before you are actually going to get into the action phase of Yoga itself.

I hope you enjoy the book and I hope that you will get lots of inspiration and mental stimulation out of the book in order to be able to take advantage of the unlimited benefits that you can achieve with this Yoga knowledge that you are going to discover as you go through the book.

Enjoy your journey through the wonderful world of Yoga!

Chapter 1: Turbaned Gurus, Sing-Song Mantras and Body Contortions

In the morning, I practice 15 minutes of Yoga. -- Vivienne Westwood

If you are new to all these Yoga symbols, terminology, and phrases you might be asking are these turbaned experts, sing-song mantras and bodily contortions any good and what is all the fuzz about them anyway?

The guarantee of true enlightenment and omphaloskepsis ( speculation of the naval ) completes the cliche. But do not knock yoga until you have tried it, and then only with respect.

Fascinating Facts about Turbaned Gurus: Guru Nanak, the initiator of Sikhism, was born in 1469 A.D. At Talwandi, since called Nankana Sahib ( now in Pakistan ). When Guru Nanak was thirty, God's message was made public to him and he made a decision to go all around to evangelise God's message of love and peace to folks. At the age of seventy he died.

Yoga means to bind together -- variously joining sun and moon, right and left, masculine and feminine, and any amount of yins and yangs -- through ascetic systems of meditation and exercise. The goal is physical and psychological balance. Indian Hatha ' yoga is well known to Westerners. Double-jointedness is not a must have, but the classic lotus position, cross-legged on the floor, soles-up on the inside thigh, either comes naturally or does not. Then there are far more wondrous / magical types of yoga for which folks give up roles and mannered society and fall back to the Himalayas.

Though not everybody follows a non secular guide outside the Beltway ; they would prefer to take up the discipline at a local ashram or the Y. Committed practitioners claim yoga leads to intuitive awareness, religious harmony, perfect concentration. Others use it to shed some weight or stop smoking. Some like the lift they get from yoga asanas ( positions ) better than breaking into a sweat with push ups.

Actually, it can't do any harm, if done sparsely and with correct direction.

It is like eating green beans, they can only be beneficial for the body:)

You can only get more benefit out of Yoga if you couple or triple it with meditation and a healthy nutrition.

I have always loved juicing and healthy smoothies so in my own experience and since I have added Yoga to my own daily routine and healthy smoothie consumption, I have become fitter, energized and more relaxed than ever before.

I specifically find that adding a healthy smoothie with fruits to my breakfast ritual is the best way for me to start a successful and stress free day.

I hope you got some valuable takeaways out of this lesson so that we can continue to The Universal Appeal of Yoga.

Chapter 2: The Origins Of Yoga

There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered. -- Nelson Mandela

Society is quicker paced that ever before. Folks have more stress issues which lead on to more health issues, psychological and physical. There are rather more concerns with lethality in the nourishment that we consume and the air we breathe.

Millions of northern Americans today live an inactive way of living, which is connected with weight issues. The body, the cavities of our soul, was not intended to grow worse in precisely the way that leads to illness.

Yoga was developed over five thousand years back in India and it included religious convictions, physical strategies, and erudite philosophy. There's an increasing trend to practicing Yoga for many alternative reasons, which include reaching the yoga body or physique, relaxation and reassurance, or to stop injury and infirmities. US people typically practice Hatha Yoga, which is focused on postures and stretching the body.

Some more interesting facts about Yoga: The word Yoga is derived from the ancient Sanskrit language and the Sanskrit root yuj which means to join or yoke together. The meaning most often refers to the yoking of a conscious subject like a human being (jiva-atman) with the Supreme Spirit (parama ta man) to reach a condistion of exstacy (Samadhi, a putting or placing together). It is derived from the ancient Proto-Indo-European base word *yeug- which means to join.

Yoga, which springs from the holy Sanskrit language of India, meaning *union* or *to yoke or harness*. Yoga is a way or trail to transcendence and liberation from the self and the ego by purging the body and mind. Practicing yoga leads to a union with the body and mind or the individual and universal consciousness.

To explain, yoga is the union with the Individual Self and the Universal Self. Yoga predates all the other faiths and has affected and provoked lots of other conventions and philosophies. Yoga is better accepted as a union of the physical, physical, psychological, emotional, and intellectual bodies, leading to an intentional and balanced life. There's simply no other discipline like yoga as it utilized the body, mind and soul, all in one practice. Yoga really is a religious trail that is founded on traditional holy philosophy, but one does not have to make a moral call when practicing yoga, rather finding your own trail is totally accepted.

The holistic advantages of yoga are appropriate for the young and old, sick or well, with any non-secular background. The methods of yoga are inwardness, concentration, and purification of body and mind with cleaning thoughts and food. Indian philosophy states that inside man is the spirit that's the center of everything.

The more I think about yoga and practice it on a daily basis the more I am fascinated about it. I am especially fascinated by the fact that there even does exist a written record of who invented the discipline of yoga. It was practiced by the yogis (the yoga practitioners) many years before the human kind even knew how to write. The Yogis were able over the millennia to pass down this fascinating discipline to their students. Many different types of schools of yoga developed as it spread from the rout.

One of the oldest Yogi texts in existence, is believed to be created and written by Patanjali, a wise Indian yogic sage who lived 2,000 and 2,500 years ago. Patanjali wrote these insightful Yoga Sutras (sutra means thread in Sanskrit), which are the principles, philosophy, and practices of yoga that are still followed by Yoga practitioners around the globe today. Although many schools of yoga have evolved from this source and over the centuries, they are all following the fundamental principles that were described by Patanjali over 2,000 years ago. The Eastern spiritual traditions and Buddhism do use many of these yoga techniques or some derivations of Patanjali's knowledge.

This is more than fascinating stuff and I try to deepen my knowledge as I continue my path to find my inner-self!

I encourage everybody who wants to get started with Yoga to get deeper into the meaning of Yoga and to read and practice different schools and techniques in order to find ones true path!
