Part I: Intro to Buying Storage Units

For myself the idea of buying storage units began as a way to make a little extra cash. I was working for a very small accounting firm and the paycheck I was bringing in just wasn’t quite enough to support myself, my wife and our three kids. Money was tight and bills were difficult to pay off.

My skills didn’t really seem comparable to selling off since the only real skill I had was for accounting and that was something I was already doing. So I set out to find something different that I could do and make a little bit of money to support my family.

What I found was the amazing world of selling stuff. Thousands of people were selling their own stuff on websites like eBay. I thought it was a great concept to sell so much stuff this way and make some extra money but there was a problem. I didn’t have any cool and exciting stuff that I could sell.

So how was I going to be able to use a website like eBay to get me some good money? Where was I going to get the stuff that people wanted and were willing to pay big bucks for? Fortunately for me I had a friend who was willing to offer some advice. They had seen a show called Storage Wars that set me on a path to financial freedom.

When I watched the show myself I was thrilled. This was definitely something that I could do and it would get me some extra money to help support my family. We’d be able to pay off all our bills and maybe even go on vacation. In just one month I found myself at my first storage unit auction and I actually
