People tell me I look like an anime girl, but anime sucks, Brandy told me.

We were standing outside the class we both took, which was a Spanish class. We had been partnered together on the first day, the professor making speaking with a regular partner an important part of the class.

I was a bit shy with girls back then. I had only one girlfriend in high school, and she hadn’t exactly been much of a looker, and here I had been partnered with this cute redhead. Brandy wore baggy clothes every day to class, and this made her look kind of chubby, though this was far from the truth. I was about to learn what was really hiding under her sweaters.

Anime girl? I asked.
