Stop The Pain - Carmelita M. Kinjo

    PART I

    CLARITY MATTERS

    MIND TRAINING EXERCISES

Mind Training Exercises are activities that can be performed after each topic as a guide to adventurous self-discovery. They will bring greater clarity on how one’s beliefs totally determine actions and corresponding life choices. By beginning to understand this relationship you will take steps toward an effective Ultimate Healing Process.

    READER’S REFLECTION

Examining one’s life experience in the scope of a trustworthy belief system is needed for possible improvement.

    BIBLE STUDY

In this book you will find many biblical references. To further your spirit most effectively, you should interact with others in a Bible study of the verse included at the conclusion of each chapter. Ideally, you want to join a biblically sound church with a good support system. Wholesome and healthful living is exemplified in the Bible. If you have children living at home, reading this book and doing the Mind Training Exercises together will help them cope with the emotional impact of having a sick or injured loved one in the family.

    GOSPEL SONGS

Inspirational songs can come in the form of selected gospel or hymn songs that can reinforce the lesson of each chapter. Sing, hum, and let the message of the song resonate within you. If you are not familiar with the songs listed then find the songs on YouTube. Singing along with the songs can uplift the spirit! Pay close attention to your personal responses while getting engaged in the program. Selecting your own gospel songs and singers can be more effective and therapeutic.

    REALISTIC THINKING

The next step is to recognize and accept the realities of one’s own responses to existing job-related injury and sickness. First and foremost, do you really have a full understanding of your diagnosis, injury, and prognosis? Do you have any existing problem of a coping mechanism that is hindering healing?

    HOLISTIC HEALTH CARE

Consider effective and family-tested ways of dealing with some health-care issues at home. Maintenance of a therapeutic environment will be emphasized and discussed in every topic. The Bible lessons lie in the heart of holistic health care.

Here’s a great principle to practice at home:

To be MENTORS & CHRISTIAN models to each other, as a Family Health-Care Team we become much better than by just ourselves.

To the injured loved one, in your daily Mind Training Exercises, I would suggest that you make your personal journal. Follow the guidelines in the Mind Training Exercises as you answer the questions in the reflective thinking section. Everyone who is in the household should do the same thing. And then compare your notes with one another. This is the best way of improving your nurturing relationships at home.

Have a specific journal book for young children and for adults that is available with this book. Be creative in doing your journal according to the Mind Training Exercises after each chapter. Enjoy!

For the children’s journal, create a cheerful monumental journal with their pictures relevant to every chapter in the book. For instance, in Chapter 1, Know Your Origin, let them write what they believe who they are like, such as, I am a child of God, and paste their picture beside a picture of Jesus Christ.

    CHAPTER 1

    KNOW YOUR ORIGINS

The first time I heard about the Darwinian Theory of Man’s Evolution versus God’s Creation of Man in our high school biology class challenged my belief in God’s Creation! I could hardly wait to get home and see my mother to verify what she and my dad were telling me all along about God since I was a little kid.

Mom, our biology teacher taught us today about the Darwinian Theory that man originated from apes! I told this to my mom as I hurriedly approached her with bewilderment.

My mother asked me to clarify, What is this Darwinian Theory that you are talking about? I reiterated, It’s all about a theory of man’s evolution from apes which was formulated by a scientist named Charles Robert Darwin.

Which one do you think is true, the Bible’s story or your biology book’s information? my mom asked me as she was trying to challenge my conviction.

I am sorry, Mom, I don’t really know! I answered and paused for a moment, and then said with hesitation, I am somewhat confused now, Mom.

Staring at me with a smile, my mom interrogated me, So, did you verify this information with your biology teacher?

Sorry, Mom, I did not. I answered.

My mom’s next question was, Who was born first, Jesus and the prophets or this scientist?

    I don’t know, Mom, I answered.

As far as I know, the Book of Genesis tells us how God created man in the beginning, my mom said, and then she finally suggested, How about asking Rev. Case to explain more about God’s creation as written in the Book of Genesis to us on Sunday?

Yes, Mom, I will! I agreed to my mom’s suggestion.

    MIND TRAINING EXERCISES

    Reader’s reflection:

Have you experienced something similar to what happened in my childhood story? As you enjoy the beauty of nature, have you ever wondered who created the universe and man? Or do you already believe that God is the creator of man and the universe? What have you been doing whenever you have been confronted with conflicting information regarding your faith? Are you easily swayed by information against your faith?

One of our strongest endowments from God is our ability to express our basic needs in order to get to the right source of help. For example, babies cry out for help from their parents when they are hungry and uncomfortable. As we grow, a complementary relationship between our parents and ourselves develops. Parents are normally the first loved ones we recognize. As children we have the natural tendency to go to our parents for answers whenever we encounter conflicting information because there is already a well developed trust and faith in them!

    Bible study:

    Book of Genesis

Consideration: There is only one choice! Either believe in God or not believe in Him at all. Interactions can be entertaining and enjoyable learning experiences in Family or Group Bible studies. This is also the best quality time to be with our loved ones, especially our children. You will be amazed how kids perceive the Bible stories!

    Gospel songs:

    1. It’s me, it’s me, oh Lord standing in the need of prayer

    2. Be careful little ears what you hear

    3. This is my Father’s world

    4. Be thou my vision

    5. Turn your eyes upon Jesus

    6. I’d rather have Jesus

    7. It took a miracle by Rev. Ron Patty & Sandy Patti

    8. Majesty, worship His Majesty

    Reality thinking:

Peace, the key ingredient to Preventive Medicine and Health Problem Resolution

A firm belief in God’s universe and man’s creation has a significant effect on the integrity of our mind. There is a great sense of security whenever we think of God being in control of everything! Peace of mind enhances our mastermind and body functions. With certainty, we feel assured, comfortable, and confident that everything is well when we are with our loving parents. We can always go to them for help anytime without reservation. We are happy to have parents as our sole defenders and providers for sufficient existence. We naturally look up to them!

Aside from your earthly parents, have you heard about Jesus and claimed God as your Heavenly Father? We love to talk and feel great about our God-given parents! How much better we feel when we recognize that we are also children of God? Our Heavenly Father is powerful, King of Kings, and the magnificent Creator of the universe where we live in to enjoy. It really makes a big difference! Doesn’t it?

I feel blessed to have been born into a Christian family and so I naturally adopted my parents’ Christian beliefs and convictions. From my own perspective, I believe I should adhere to only one solid belief of my origin. That is to believe in God.

How about you, readers? We all have the free will of choice for any kind of belief system. However you believe, there is a guideline of life that is followed! To be safe and productive in every defined activity, there must be a common guideline to follow based on one’s belief system.

For instance, could you imagine if there were no traffic signs or regulations for all drivers on the freeway? No doubt there would be frequent accidents or possibly even social unrest!

When there are driving problems or accidents, we know to reach out to the police or other offices to resolve the situation. Right?

    Holistic health care:

Clarify doubts in faith as soon as possible.

In reflecting back on my doubting childhood experience, I sought help and clarification from my mom just as most kids would do. She taught me how to seek immediate guidance from the right source of help. She gave me some suggestions or strategies to choose from.

In addition, she included herself in the learning process. Indeed, getting to know the Lord better is a personal learning experience until eternity!

When we are in tune with our Heavenly Father just as we relate to our parents, we are empowered by Him and have peace of mind. Healing begins with our faith in His supernatural healing power!

Faith correlates with our continuous evolving beliefs. It’s either reinforced or broken down due to repeated exposure to various stimuli from the environment. The outcome will be determined by the integrity of our brain’s, and senses’ functions plus other unknown factors.

There is a simplified teaching of our basic way of life presented by the Bible without any scientific justification. It is all about the dynamics of our relationships with God, mankind, and the universe as a whole. It is the essence of individual experience!

The Bible, our supposed manual of life, defines a more solid and clear foundation of a belief system that can be adapted by Mind Training Exercises. This entails commitment and practice of appropriate repetitious belief activities until the concept is inculcated in the mind.

Another contributing healing power is embracing God’s bountiful blessings of a beautiful domain. The message of the hymn, This is My Father’s World, sums it up, so get out and enjoy nature with others if you are physically able!

Are you ready to get engaged for a healing venture? May you have a happy and adventurous self-discovery journey! As you start your personal discovery diary, I will continue mine, too!

    CHAPTER 2

THE BEST GIFT OF ALL THE BEST GIFTS

Two weeks before New Year’s Eve, my sister-in-law called inviting us to a New Year’s Eve celebration in San Diego, which is a two-hour drive from where we live.

Nina sounded excited on the telephone. Ate, how are you doing?(Ate is a word of respect for older women in the Philippine language.)

I am fine, thank you! I answered happily.

How about joining us to welcome in 2016 New Year at Jane’s house? Nina asked me.

I am so sorry, we cannot come because I have been feeling so sick lately! I answered with regrets and explained further, This year my neck injury (cervical stenosis) has gotten worse. I have severe frequent headaches, dizziness, losing balance sometimes, nausea and vomiting. Not too long ago, I became the center of attraction in our college class reunion dinner party in a Las Vegas restaurant. I continued, I am afraid the same thing would happen again and ruin your New Year’s party. It is probably better for us to stay home.

You can just lie down in the sofa if ever you feel bad, Ate, Nina advised me in an assuring manner. Don’t worry, we will all be there for you! she continued. By the way, Carol (another sister-in-law) is joining us from Japan, Ate! Everybody is coming!

I could sense Nina was getting more persuasive. Of course, I was also getting thrilled at the prospect of visiting with our relatives, and all the nieces, nephews, and grandkids from faraway places. Finally, after conferring with Jess, we all decided to join the family New Year’s celebration.

Jess, Jr., and I looked forward to meeting everybody with great anticipation. I recall we were the first ones to arrive in our niece’s house that afternoon. It was quiet. Only Nina and our nine-year-old twin grandkids were home.

Hi, how are you doing? Where is everybody? I asked.

They went to attend the New Year’s Eve church service, Ate, Nina answered.

Hi, Grandpa, hi, Grandma and Jr.! the twin boys greeted us from a distance.

Wow, what a beautiful design you are making here! I praised our grandchildren, who were connecting all the frame puzzle pieces for their room wall decoration.

Thanks, Grandma, both twins replied. Each of them was happy, and excited, showing more of their
