Get Rid of Your Therapist!!! - Andrei Spirtaru
Disclaimer
I do not base this book on a therapeutic approach. The purpose of its title is not to offend psychologists, psychotherapists or other practitioners of spoken therapies.
In fact, I am one of these guys:)
The purpose of it is to give a funny and simple-to-do approach of what I call self-coaching. It’s about our ability to coach ourselves.
During past years I’ve seen too many people misunderstand client-therapist relationship. Too many clients think their therapists are their friends, which is not true. A good therapist is the one who cares for his client to get well as soon as he can. A good therapist will ask his client to work deeply in order to get the best results. He will not ask him dead end questions, nor be supportive in the way a friend did. A good therapist is empathetic, not sympathetic to his client.
Now, the most important disclaimer is: this book is not for people under psychiatric treatment!
Another important disclaimer is that this book doesn’t make the work of your therapist, no matter what kind of therapy you’re doing.
The purpose of this book is to give you some triggers and tools in order to get to know yourself better. To better understand the challenges in your life. To grow.
Get rid of your therapist!!! message is to use therapeutic services only when and if you need them. Becoming your own coach will give you empowerment and a better understanding of who you are and what your actual needs are.
Who am I?
As I told you before, I’m a therapist. An emotional therapist.
My journey in this field of activity began a few years ago when I graduated from my first coaching school, becoming a relationship coach. This niche was interesting for me as I’ve always been curious about human nature and relationships. But, soon, I felt this was not enough…
I understand that most of our issues, no matter of which area of our life we’re talking about, are coming from one specific thing.
They are coming from our mindset.
I remember somebody saying that we are what we think.
Further, I can say that we are what we feel.
How we perceive our thoughts and feelings came from our mindset. If you grow a healthy mindset, you can easily pass most of your challenges in life, even if they are about money, relationships, family, business, or a different topic.
So, I became interested in how we can change our mindset. The journey I took for several years into coaching, psychology, NLP, transactional analysis and cognitive-behavioral therapies brought me to my present version. I’m currently working as an emotional therapist, mindset coach and author of a registered method of spoken therapy (The Emotional-Cognitive Regression Therapy).
I wrote this book using an easy-to-read approach, because of my belief that any person can achieve the best of what life can offer, through awareness and a healthy mindset. This belief came from the work of the remarkable psychologist Abraham Maslow, who first stated that all of us can gain our best potential in life through self-actualization.
So, Get rid of your therapist!!! it’s not about quitting the therapeutic process, but about gaining strength and confidence in what we can do for ourselves.
Creating a healthy mindset is the first step of your personal mindset revolution.
A Mindset Revolution
Everyone is searching for happiness.
Even so, probably less than 15% from the people around the globe can say from the bottom of their heart, they found it.
Why something as natural as happiness is so difficult to find? Why do we sometimes stop this search? What can we do to succeed?
I want to introduce to you the concept of the three pillars of happiness.
Yes, during history, people chased happiness. But what exactly is happiness for you? Maybe for me it is different. Or for her, or for him. Maybe each of us has a different definition of happiness.
For someone, happiness is traveling around the world, for another person, is being healthy, and for a third one to have a fancy car. Different people with different approaches to happiness.
The truth is that happiness is a thing beyond what we usually see as happiness. And that hidden thing is found on the same three pillars for each of us.
The three pillars of happiness are power, safety, and acceptance. When we are looking after our personal idea of happiness, we should check these three pillars because they are the ones solving our greatest needs. These three pillars are the engine of change at any level of our identity.
Let’s set an agreement right now!
I want you to commit yourself to a substantial change in your life. I want you to say loud and clear that from now on you will live happiness as an everyday state of being. From now on you are ready to be the protagonist of your life, and will decide how to live, no matter what other people will ask you. From now on, you’ll transform your dreams into reality.
OK?
Then it’s time to start our journey of self-coaching.
First, a few words about what coaching is. Imagine you’re in a new city and take a guided tour. The city we’re talking about, is actually your true identity, and the one who’s guide you is your coach. You and the coach are traveling through an unknown path, and the coaching process is on the map. Whatever you discover during the journey is coming from yourself. The coach is only your travel mate, the one you’re sharing your experience with. That’s the main idea of the coaching process. If you’re expecting a magic pill from your coach, the one to bring happiness in your life, doing nothing to achieve it, then it corrupts the entire coaching process.
In coaching, we’re talking about a few basic principles:
The here and now
way of life, meaning to live your life in the present tense
Understanding why things are happening in your life
Organizing life priorities by understanding the scale of your values and beliefs
Finding powerful resources to boost your success
In classic coaching we do…
Well, it really doesn’t matter what we do, as most of the time the result of the coaching process is not coming from what we say as a coach, but from what the client discovers about him.
That’s why the best coach for you is yourself.
I won’t say that’s something easy to do. I know many people are trying to sell
you simple solutions. What I’ll show is not a hard way to achieve happiness, but needs your full commitment in order to be effective.
Let’s think about how things are working in our life and why sometimes we find ourselves stuck inside a situation or overwhelmed by it.
Our identity looks like a pyramid with different levels of things we are into it, do, think or believe in. In Neuro-Linguistic Programming we call these neuro-logical levels. Let’s understand how these levels work and how we are building our identity through them.
