When not practiced, knowledge is poison;
in indigestion, food is poison |
poison is gathering/festivities of poor;
old man's young wife is poison ||
This Shloka very elegantly explores the idea that anything done half way is not just benign, but harmful. Half knowledge is dangerous. And knowledge that is not practiced or used accurately decays like radioactive material, reaching its half-life in just a few years. In the same way, food that is not broken down and digested properly becomes poison for the body. A gathering of resource less people does not accomplish much. Lastly in the same way, a young wife for an old man is poison.
A simple Google search reveals that Vedic or Hindu Astrology is practiced by 20 lakh people in India. This goes to show the popularity of this Divine science. I have been a worshipper of this Divine Science for the last 40 years, and a teacher for the last 18 years. And even now, I have still only touched the tip of the ice berg. It is my belief, that the vast treasures of deep secrets that this science holds are yet to be discovered.
We are surrounded by multiple opinions on each aspect of Astrology, and this can cause confusion. There are different books with different ways of predicting the same things. Concepts that on the face of it, seem to contradict each other.
In my journey as a teacher I have experienced the same. Students pose questions seeking to better understand fundamental dictums given by classics. One such question is about Badhak planet. Since every horoscope has a Badhak Planet, there is widespread fear amongst students that it will cause obstructions. It is not always so. The Badhak Planet gives obstructions only under certain situations. For example for Cancer lagan if Moon is placed in eleventh house it is taken as Badhak. Moon is lagan lord and is exalted.
Another such term is Kendradhipati Dosha. This is also misunderstood. The classics have given the rules for Lord of Kendra. Many Astrologers have added the planets placed in Kendra to this category which is not correct.
I have written this book to clarify such issues. There are some fundamental concepts and principles that cut through all the confusions, contradictions and unify all opinions. These are fundamental building blocks of Astrology and give fail safe prediction methods.
In this book, I explore 14 such fundamental building blocks and explain them simply, clearly and succinctly- that is why Saral Jyotish
. This is part one of a series of books.
I request my worthy readers to give their valuable feedback and I would love to hear suggestions from you on more such topics for exploration in the upcoming books in the Saral Jyotish series.
My sincere thanks to all my teachers and students for their enquiries that have led to this publication.
My sincere thanks to Mr. Sagar his support and good work done in publishing this book as he has done by publishing my 21 previous books.
Preface
I thank all astrology lovers for liking the part 1 of Saral Jyotish with humility and gratitude. This has inspired me to discuss more topics of Astrology. I received many requests for discussing debilitated and retrograde planets. On retrograde planets, I have conducted many webinars including one in Russian language. The students demanded to put them in book so that it can benefit more students. A very practical and deeper meaning of results of a retrograde planet is given in this book.
We have discussed the results and the principles of debilitated planets at length. All possible placement of each planet in debilitation for every lagan is given. We found that only about six percent of debilitated planet do not get cancellation of debilitation. About 94 percent of debilitation is cancelled. I have always emphasised that we should never be afraid of debilitated planets. They are capable of giving excellent results.
Important topic of Vargottam is also covered in this part. Vargottam planet needs a careful examination. Mere Vargottam position is not auspicious always. This book will show the correct approach and analysis of Vargottam planets.
We have dealt with two topics which create fear of bad luck in a chart. We have discussed that a single factor is not conclusive for giving results. It is the complete horoscope which should be examined. These topics are planetary war and Kemdruma Yoga.
I have tried to make Astrology as simple as possible but it is a vast science and perhaps the most difficult of them. I therefore term this book as Saral Jyotish.
My sincere thanks to Mr. Sagar his support and good work done in timely publishing this book.
Chapter 01
Debilitate Planets
The most auspicious festival of India Diwali
is celebrated when the King of planets, Sun, is in its debilitated sign. It is celebrated on dark night i.e. Amavasya. Why we should be afraid of debilitated planets when they are so auspicious to bestow grace of Goddess Laxmi.
Debilitation of a planet is a term used to indicate a placement of a planet in a sign. In this placement the planet is considered weak. Debilitation of planet is taken seriously and astrologers generally draw a fearful conclusion and the consultant feels helpless just as the planet is feeling.
Debilitation is not always bad. We have noticed that the debilitated planets are more helpful than the exalted planets. In this discussion we will examine the plus and minus of the debilitated planets.
The placement of planets in a sign and the longitude at which they are in deep debilitation is given in the table.
Status
A debilitated planet is in the state of Very afraid or distressed
according to the classics. It is called ATIBHEET.
Cancellation of debilitation
The cancellation of debilitation is termed as Neech Bhang Raj Yoga
. The cancellation is caused by certain situation and relation of other planets with debilitate planet and from lagan and Moon. How this cancellation becomes a raj Yoga is not clear? A distressed planet is becoming giver of kingly results needs to be verified. The conditions which cause cancellation of debilitation are listed.
The sign lord of debilitated planet is in Kendra from lagan or Moon.
The lord of exaltation sign of debilitated planet is in Kendra from lagan or Moon.
The debilitated planet is in conjunction or is aspected by its debilitation sign lord.
The debilitated planet is in conjunction or is aspected by its exaltation sign lord.
There is exchange of sign between debilitate planet and its sign lord.
Two debilitated planet aspect each other.
The exaltation sign lord of dispositor of debilitated planet is related to debilitated planet, then the debilitation is cancelled. We understand it by an example. Mars is debilitated in Cancer. The Moon is the dispositor of Mars. Moon gets exalted in Taurus and Venus is the lord of exaltation sign of Moon. If Venus is with Mars or aspects it then Mars will give very good results. We can tabulate this rule for all planets.
These conditions will normally cancel the debilitation of almost all planets. Thus, all debilitated planet will give Raj yoga?
We will discuss each debilitate planet for all ascendants. These discussions are limited to the birth chart only and do not take the influence of other aspects or conjunction. This will not be extended to Divisional charts except a consideration of Navamsha. The Divisional charts play a major role in modifying the final results.
Rules
In all horoscopes discussed if the lord of Ascendant is in Ascendant or aspecting the Ascendant than it is a Vipreet Raj yoga and the results are very good. Same is the result if debilitated planet is aspecting Ascendant.
If any two planets among Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Sun or Moon are debilitated and one of them is in Ascendant then it causes loss of yoga.
In a divisional chart, any debilitated planet falls in Kendra or trikona from its position in birth chart, then it gives good results.
When lord of a house is debilitated and is aspected by other debilitated planet the effects of the house are lost.
The results attributed to each placement by classics are given. These are taken from Chamatkar Chintamani (CC), Phal Deepika (PD) and BPHS. The results given in classics are general results only. The Saral interpretation of these placements is also given for practical application. The Saral application is only for the planet in debilitation in a particular house.
Aries Ascendant
Sun debilitate
CC - When Sun is in seventh house then the person has strained relation with his wife; diseased, mentally tense, little profit in business and has rivalry with people. He suffers from insomnia.
PD - When Sun is in seventh house the person will be disabled and suffers from displeasure of the king. He will wander without wife and face humiliation.
BPHS - The person’s wife will be sterile if the fifth lord is debilitated, does not aspect fifth house and Saturn and Mercury are placed in fifth house. If the fifth lord is in the seventh house the person will be tolerant of all religions, endowed with progeny and helpful to children. If Sun is placed in seventh house then the person will have company of barren women.
Saral - Sun is the lord of fifth house and aspects lagan. Relation of lagan and fifth gives fruits of past karma. It is a raj yoga. Any PAC of Moon, Jupiter, Venus or Mars with Sun will be yoga giver. The conjunction of Venus with Sun can prove maraca in its Dasha. This placement of Sun can deny progeny until it has redeeming influence or gets modified in Saptamsha. Placement of Sun in sixth Navamsha or in second Navamsha will give inauspicious results. Its placement in Third, Fourth and fifth Navamsha will give rise and gain in career.
Example Jack Williams – DOB 29 October 1909, TOB 16.30, POB Los Angeles
Jack Williams was two times mayor of Phoenix and three times Governor of the state. He was the only Governor who served three terms. He married Versa May in 1942 and the marriage lasted for 52 year and ended by her death in 1997. He also lived long till 24 June 1998. The lordship of Sun denied him a child. Sun is aspected by Moon and Mars. Mars is lagan lord. Sun and Moon mutual aspect is yoga. Sun is in fifth Navamsha and is in fifth from its position of birth chart.
Moon debilitated
CC - A person with Moon in eighth house from lagan suffers from acute and chronic diseases. He takes varied treatment from several doctors who visit his house and prescribe strange medicines.
PD - When Moon is in eighth house the person has to suffer from disease and is short lived.
BPHS - When lord of fourth house is in debilitation, lagan lord is a benefic, fourth lord is in eleventh and Venus is in twelfth house then he gets conveyance in twelfth year. When the fourth lord is in eighth house, the person will be devoid of domestic and other comforts. He will not get much paternal happiness and be equal to a neuter.
Saral - Moon debilitated in eighth house is yoga karaka if it aspects lagan as per Parashar and it is not so. He will have many properties and conveyance. PAC of ninth lord Jupiter will be a great boon to grant him to follow a religious life. Moon in first Navamsha will give all comforts of life and the person will have excellent character. Placement of Moon in third or fifth Navamsha will give bad results like disease and sudden events.
Example David Hackett Souter - DOB 17 September 1939, TOB 20.00, POB Melrose Massachutes
Souter was associate justice of Supreme Court of USA from 1990 to 2009 when he took voluntary retirement. He is the only child of his parents. He did not marry. His lived a very simple life. He wrote with ink pen and did not use computers. His lunch was Yoghurt and apple.
Three planets are debilitating. Moon debilitated gives him good house and a good character. Debilitated planet in eighth house is yoga karaka. Debilitated Saturn will always aspect Capricorn. His Capricorn is in tenth house and gives high professional status. Mars is aspecting lagna and is a raj yoga. Seventh lord debilitate denied marriage. Second lord debilitated gives long life.
Mars debilitated
CC - When Mars is in fourth house then there will be no gains through friends and relatives, Royal favor and recognition with land and clothes.
PD - With Mars in fourth house a person is friendless, without mother, lands, happiness, shelter and conveyance.
BPHS - Ascendant lord in Kendra indicate that the person will enjoy all bodily comforts. Lagan lord in debilitation will cause disease. Ascendant lord placed in a movable sign and if aspected by a benefic will give long life. If eighth lord is in its debilitation sign and eighth house is occupied by a malefic then the life will be short. Malefic in Kendra or trikona and benefic in sixth or eighth house with eighth lord in debilitation will cause immediate death. Should
