Finance and Profession- a Vedic Approach - Raj Kumar

    Chapter-1

    Money Matters and Astrology

    1.1 What is Money?

1.The common link between philosophy and astrology is the concept of Trinity. The divine trinity comprise of Lord Brahma, the creator, Lord Vishnu, the sustainer/ developer and Lord Shiva, the destroyer. In a horoscope, there are four Trikone- Daram, Artha, Kama & Moksha. Dharam Trikone is made up of 1st, 5th, & 9th houses and fiery signs-Aries, Leo & Sagittarius denoting Agni Tatwa. Artha Trikone consists of 2nd, 6th & 10th houses including Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn signs of Prithvi Tatwa. Kama Trikone is made up of 3rd, 7th & 11th houses and Airy signs Gemini, Libra & Aquarius of Vayu Tatwa. Again based on their movability, the 12signs are put in three categories- movable including Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn; fixed comprising Taurus, Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius; and dual to include Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces. It is interesting to note that each category include one sign of each Trikone. The human life is sustained and revolves around Artha Trikone, as the four Ashram- Brahcharya, Grahastha, Vaanprastha & Sanyas, are sustained by Grahastha ashram only.

2.As per mythology, Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and prosperity. The word Lakshmi is derived from the Sanskrit word Lakshya, which means aim or goal. Lakshmi or money will come to all those who have a clear aim or goal and strive to achieve it with full zest and sincerity as clear as the single focus of Arjuna, the great Pandava. Venus, a benefic planet, rules over material comfort, luxury and comfort. Also Friday comes from Freia, the Viking goddess of fertility.

3.The Artha or fortune comprises of land, property, all lovable, beautiful & comfort giving things/ objects and a status in the society. An easy instrument to own or exchange or enjoy these things in modern times is called Money. Money is cynosure of all eyes and beyond doubt the most sought after item. It is the nectar of life, ever stimulating tonic of energy & vitality and quintessence of name, fame & prosperity. In this millennium, the enchanting spell of money is so great that people may throw away all religion, caste, creed, nationality etc in its whirlpool. Throughout the universe people might chant Money, money, money: there is nothing sweeter, brighter or holier than money and ignore all religious, spiritual or saintly advice.

    1.2 Money Power

1.From time immemorial people realized the value of money power. People without money live a life of suffering and penury- unsung, unwept, unhonoured in life as well as in death. Poverty is a curse that causes hunger, deprivation, humiliation, subjugation and many a times degradation of basic human values. Without money, nothing can be achieved in life. On the other hand riches automatically give many blessings- social status, objects of luxuries and acquisition of all types of novelties, comforts, opportunities, prestige, power and fame. Therefore since the beginning of civilization, men have always tried to earn and accumulate more and more money. In fact money can buy anything/ everything in life except mental happiness and good health.

2.Riches are a boon if obtained by fair means and spent on honourable purposes. But this is generally an exception, for more money is generated through foul/ dubious means than by fair ones. Nevertheless money is money and whoever possesses money is worshipped and gets a high status in the society. Money covers almost all shortcomings & weaknesses and brings out unknown qualities of its owner. Numerous friends & relations always flock around and praise him.

    1.3 Classical Views-

1.Saint Valmiki in Ramayana has said:

i.e Guru Vashistha explains to Lord Rama that in this world, wealth is the most important thing. There is not much of the difference between a poor and a dead person.

i.e. All actions done by a poor man of low order dwindle in to nothingness as the flow of rivulets during summer.

i.e. a wealthy man seeking after Dharma and prosperity will succeed at all cost but a poor man hunting after prosperity will find it difficult to attain.

2.In Mahabharat, Sage Vyas has written:

i.e. O King! Through money one attains Dharma, Kama & Moksha. Even day-to-day life in this world is not possible without money.

3.The great diplomat and economist Chanakya has said:

i.e. the root of happiness is Dharma and root of Dharma is wealth. The motive of action is money which bestows Dharma and Kama. At another place he has said that one who has wealth, has friend: has relations, he only is considered as a man and he only lives.

4.In Ram Charit Manas, saint Tulsi Das has said, Poverty is the greatest curse of life on this earth.

    1.4 What is Profession?

1.In Indian philosophy, profession is regarded as a Goddess-

i.e. I salute the goddess who resides in all beings as Profession.

2.Money is essential for sustaining life and is represented by Goddess Lakshmi. Profession is essentially the regular flow of income to sustain life. But Regular income from rent/ interest can not be termed as profession. Use of knowledge, skill, art and ability of a native in his economical activities could be called his profession. But accumulation of wealth by a cheat, cunning, unscrupulous, or notorious person by dubious means at the expense of others should not be called profession. Probably earning regular income by creative activities utilizing his talents for the general welfare of the society/ nation should be called Profession.

3.Notwithstanding above, some of the most ancient professions or means of livelihood have been prostitution, thieving, decoity and extortion, eclipsing the noble ways of profession. In present age earning money has become the prime consideration and the end justifies the means. People do not hesitate to kill or decimate others if it suits their purpose. In India out of compulsion, even begging has become a profession.

1.5 The Horoscope & Money Matters

1.The horoscope of a person is believed to be the balance carried forward in to this life from the previous birth. In other words, previous existence is believed to be the cause and the present life is its effect which unfolds slowly but steadily, making sure that no one escapes the universal law of Karma. Cancer is zenith of success, respect & goodness. More the planet in it better it will be. Its opposite Capricorn is conversely the rock bottom of insult, injury, failure, ridicule, shame, censure, setback etc. The more the planets in it worse will be the result for financial prosperity & fame. All the 12 houses of a horoscope have a divine purpose to perform and as far as money matters are concerned, they indicate as under:

i)1st: Name, fame, prosperity, livelihood and proficiency.

ii)2nd: Acquisition of wealth, attitude towards savings, gold & gems, family & family business, scholarship and speech.

iii)3rd: House of courage, younger coborn, communication, short travels, neighbour, mental inclination, handicraft, journalism, publishing, hobbies, services & entrepreneurship.

iv)4th: Mother, education, medicine, property, vehicles, comforts, agriculture, forestry, dairy, marine services and mental peace. Any planet in this house directly aspect 10th house.

v)5th: Poorva punya, entertainment, wisdom, technology, great deeds, counseling, speculation, and creativity. Being 9th from 9th, it is secondary house of luck.

vi)6th: Competition, service, litigation, disease, theft and debt.

vii)7th: Spouse, partner, opponent, foreign settlement, public relations, commercial activities, diplomacy & sexual desires. Being 10th from 10th and 4th from 4th, it is secondary house of profession & happiness.

viii)8th: Obstacles, death, inheritance, windfall and unearned income, dowry, U/G wealth & minerals and loss from debts. But it has many negative influences on profession.

ix)9th: Luck, wealth, father, long journey, law, justice, pilgrimage and being 5th from 5th higher education.

x)10th: Profession, power, ambition, fame, trade and Karma.

xi)11th: All type of gains, nature of income, fulfillment of desires, elder brother and friends.

xii)12th: Investments, mode of & job connected with expenditure, jail, hospitalization and loss, repayment of debt, living abroad.

    2.Traits of Houses-

i)Vishnu & Lakshmi Sthan- All Kendras (houses1, 4, 7 & 10) are called Vishnu sthans. These are the houses around which whole life of a native revolves. Success, comforts, happiness, name and fame of the native depend upon the strength of these. In ascending order of strength they are 7th, 4th, 1st and 10th. Trikones (houses 1, 5 & 9) are called Laksmi sthans and denotes fortunate events, success in speculation, luck and sudden opulence & riches. In ascending order of strength, they are 1st, 5th & 9th. These houses must be strong for wealth.

ii)Janam/ Moon Lagna- Janam/ Moon Lagna and their lords should be strong for a native to be rich.

iii)Artha Trikone- Houses 2, 6, & 10th constitute artha Trikone and should be studied for wealth.

iv)Upachaya Houses- Houses 3, 6, 10 & 11th are called Upachaya houses (of progress & expansion). Natural malefics give good material success here.

v)Primary & Secondary houses of Wealth- 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11th are primary houses of wealth. 5th house is considered to be the strongest as it is in Kendra from 2nd& 11th, in Trikone from 9th & Lagna and is house of wisdom & Poorva punya. Any relation among primary houses/ lords makes a native very rich. The four Kendras (Vishnu sthan) -1st, 4th, 7th and 10th are secondary houses of wealth.

vi)Trika houses- Trika houses- 12th, 6th and 8th are the most malefic houses (in ascending order) in a horoscope. The significations of the Bhava, whose lord is situated in a Trika house, are crippled. The Trika lords spoil the significations of any house wherever they are posited except when they are in a Trika house, when they cause Vipreet Rajyoga.

vii)Concept of Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh- The houses in a horoscope forms four sets i.e. 1st set=houses 1, 2 & 3: 2nd set= 4th, 5th & 6th houses: 3rd set= 7th, 8th & 9th: and 4th set= 10th, 11th & 12th. In each of these 1st house acts as Brahma- the creator, 2nd house as Vishnu the sustainer & developer and the 3rd house as Mahesh the destroyer. For example, 4th house creates pleasures & comforts, which gets to its maximum in 5th house (lady love & entertainment) and these are destroyed in 6th house of enemies and hurdles when you least expect them.

    3.Some Vital Terms

i)Indu Lagna- Indu means Moon and Moon through mind governs all actions of human beings and makes one a recluse or a materialistic. The Indu Lagna is arrived at by mathematical manipulation of 9th house of fortune with reference to Lagna and Moon. This is the most important key point to assess the financial prosperity of a native. The quantum of prosperity or financial gain is directly proportional to the strength & benefic influence on Indu Lagna and other planets related to it. Planets situated in 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12th from this Lagna indicate unnecessary expenses and losses. Find lords of 9th from Lagna and Moon Lagna. Add their Kalas and divide by 12. The remainder counted from Moon Lagna is called Indu Lagna or Dhan Lagna. The Kalas of Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn are 30, 16, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 1 respectively.

Chart No.1: Rich Businessman, born on 2Jan1931 at 7:40AM at Delhi. Balance Moon Dasha at Birth 5y, 11m, 25d.

Native is a rich businessman. He has his Indu Lagna in 12th house (Scorpio) in Nakshtra of Mercury, occupied by 11th lord Venus. Indu Lagna lord Mars is in 9th from this Lagna. This Lagna is aspected by exalted Moon and by Rahu from 5th from it. During Dasha of Mercury -Mars-Venus, Native gained a huge fortune of Rs 100Lakhs.

ii)Yogkaraka Planet- It is a planet which simultaneously owns a Kendra and a Trikone. A yogkaraka planet has much greater functional efficiency than any other planet of the same rising sign. When such a planet gets related to another planet/(s) in some way or the other, the latter inherit the former’s benefic properties to give very good results. The ability of yogkaraka planet to energize entire horoscope depends on its strength& placement to which it can spread its influence on other planets specially to Kendra & Trikone lords and also lords of 2nd, 11th & 12th lord. For this purpose, the Yogkaraka may use its sign, Nakshtra, dispositor or the planets of which yogkaraka itself is dispositor. Only three planets acts as yogkaraka viz. Mars for Cancer & Leo Lagna, Venus for Capricorn & Aquarius Lagna and Saturn for Taurus & Libra Lagna. The Dasha of Yogkaraka is very auspicious even if it is located in an evil house. These confer rise in career, wealth and status. Even if Yogkaraka is combust/ retrograde, it may delay or cause obstacles, but will not deny to deliver what is due to the native. Yogkaraka from Janam rashi is equally important as yogkaraka from rising Lagna.

iii)Fortuna- It indicates inherited wealth and accretion of property or worldly fortunes to the native. To calculate the position of Fortuna, add longitudes of Lagna & Moon and deduct longitude of Sun there from (all longitudes are to be taken zero degree Aries). It is as far away from the Lagna as the Moon from the Sun. This sensitive point is commonly used in Western astrology. Its position moves at a speed much faster than that of the Moon. Fortuna has no influence on character but benefits the house where it is posited. The lord of sign where Fortuna is located bestows fortunes. Generally the conjunction of planets with Fortuna gives much superior results than the aspects which give results of secondary nature.

iv)Arudh Bhava- A term used in Jaimini astrology. Arudh of a house is calculated by counting as many houses from the house lord as he is away from the concerned house. For example to find Arudh Lagna, see how far away Lagna lord is from Lagna. Arudh Lagna is as many houses away from Lagna lord as Lagna lord is away from Lagna. In case of Scorpio and Aquarius signs, both have two lords (Mars & Ketu and Saturn & Rahu respectively), so the stronger of the two is to be considered. However if Arudh falls in the same sign or in 7th from it, it will not be accepted as Arudh. In both these cases, count 10th from proposed house i.e. in 10th or 4th from the concerned house. If Arudh Lagna or Arudh of 11th Bhava is conjoined or aspected by benefics, one earns through fair means. Influence of malefics on these indicates earnings through questionable means.

    1.5 Salient Features of Prediction

1.The Strength of a House/ Bhava:- A house/ Bhava becomes strong, its significations flourish and it gives favourable results if-

i)The house lord occupies/ aspect his own house.

ii)The house is occupied/ aspected by benefics only.

iii)The house is occupied by a planet in exaltation/ Mooltrikone sign.

iv)The house lord is conjunct, aspected by or hemmed between benefics.

v)The house lord is in exaltation, Mooltrikone or own sign.

vi)The house lord is posited in an angle or Trikone in strength.

vii)The dispositor of house lord is in exaltation, Mooltrikone or own sign.

viii)The house lord is in 3rd or 11th from it.

2.The weakness of a house/ Bhava:- A house/ Bhava becomes weak or may be destroyed and gives unfavourable results if-

i)It is occupied/ aspected by malefics.

ii)The house lord is in a Trika house or in Paapkartari.

iii)The house lord is combust, debilitated, lost in planetary war, in state of infancy or in enemy’s sign

iv)The house, its lord or its significator is in Paapkartari.

v)The dispositor of house lord is weak or in a Trika house.

vi)The house, its lord and its significator have no aspect or conjunction with benefics.

vii)The house itself is 6th, 8th or 12th from Lagna, Moon or Karaka.

3.A house should be read with reference to Moon sign and Karaka as Lagna as well.

4.The significations of the house containing non-Mooltrikone sign of a planet, does not bother the native in general scheme of life. Therefore it is imperative to note houses in a chart which have Mooltrikone sign and have any planet close to its most effective point (degree of Lagna).

5.When a planet owns two houses-one good and the other evil, the lordship of Mooltrikone house shall prevail. But if the planet is in one of its own sign, then that very sign shall prevail whether it is Mooltrikone or not.

6.Concept of Bhavate Bhavam: It means a house as far removed from a house as the later is from the Lagna, acts like the later house. While examining strength of a house simultaneously assess the strength of the house that is equidistant from the relevant house as the relevant house is from the Lagna. So while examining 2nd house, also examine 3rd house which is 2nd from 2nd house; hence Jupiter in 3rd makes a native wealthy. Similarly 5th house also denotes luck as it is 9th from 9th house and Boss’s favour is seen from 7th house as it is 10th from 10th house.

7.Conjunction/ aspects- When two or more planets are within a degree of longitude, it is called exact conjunction. If they are within five degree of longitude, it is called close conjunction. Similarly when two or more planets mutually aspect each other on the same longitudinal degree or a planet aspects exactly on the most effective point of a house, it is called an exact aspect. If this aspect is within a difference of five degrees, it is called a close aspect. The conjunction/ aspect with more than five degree difference, it is called wide conjunction/ aspect. They have only short lived transit influences on planets/ houses.

8.Dasha System:- Events fructify only during the periods of indicative planets. Therefore it is essential to understand the Dasha system. As per classics, Vimshotri Dasha system is recommended for general application. This provides calculation of balance of operational Dasha as per longitude of Moon in the chart. There after the planets follow their main periods in Vimshotri system in seriatim of Sun (6years), Moon (10years), Mars (7years), Rahu (18years), Jupiter (16 years), Saturn (19years), Mercury (17years), Ketu (7years) and Venus (20 years).During the main period of a planet, all other planets share periods proportionate to their main period. This share of period is called sub-period (Bhukti) and the first sub-period in a planet’s main period is always its own followed by other planets in seriatim as above. Similarly Sub-sub-period (Pratyantra) can be calculated.

    1.6 Conclusion

In today/s materialistic world, Money is the only living god. Almost everyone crave to earn and accumulate more and more money without thinking about the means to get it. Money gives native every thing one can hope for in the world- name, fame, status, power, comforts & pleasures. Every human skill/ trait has become part and parcel of money generating schemes and has established a firm place in the trade and commerce.

Naturally people’s curiosity and inquisitiveness grew more and more in the quest for future financial prosperity/ adversity, and this psyche has led them to consult competent astrologers. Astrology indicates auspicious periods when one can fully exploit the situation to one’s advantage and gives a prior notice about pitfalls in one’s progress through financial turbulence with least mental disturbance. Successful prediction depends upon three factors, viz. a good knowledge & intuitive capacity of the astrologer, the Divine grace and the luck of the native & the astrologer.

    Chapter-2

    Astrological Yogas Abou Finance

    2.1 General

1.Success in life depends to a large extent on financial prosperity. The term Yoga means a union, combination or configuration. In astrology, yoga means a specific planetary configuration which is capable of giving some degree of wealth, fame, luck, status, health, penury and/ or misfortune. All yogas are combination of planets but all combinations can not be yogas. Yogas are generally formed by placement of planets in a particular pattern with an inherent linkage. This linkage could be involving planets only or between planets & houses or between planets & signs or any other combination of the above. A link is forged among planets in any of the following manner:

i)Conjunction or placement in the same sign.

    ii)Under mutual aspect.

    iii)Exchange of houses or Nakshtras.

    iv)When aspected by its dispositor.

2.A yoga is strong or weak depending upon its constituents. Strong planets make strong yoga. Weak planets such as debilitated, combust or in a bad house or in Paapkartari give bad results. The aspects of malefics spoil a yoga. The linkage forged by planets influence the yogas as per:

    i)Inherent nature of the planets.

ii)Signs wherein such planets are posited.

    iii)Houses involved.

iv)Lordship of the planets constituting a yoga or conjunction.

v)The extent of proximity among conjunct planets.

vi)Planetary aspects have similar effects as conjunction though to a lesser extent.

3.Role of Rahu-Ketu- These two planets generally do not figure in any classical yoga of astrology. However they are very important and their role must be appreciated while making prediction. Rahu & Ketu remains 180 degrees apart. Thus they constitute an axis. Both Rahu & Ketu are considered malefic. Rahu is like Saturn and Ketu like Mars in its maleficience. Any planet falling in their axis tends to get damaged and cancel any yoga if formed. They are unorthodox and non-conformist, and the damage they inflict has a tinge of unorthodoxy. They also represent modern technical education including computer technology and space/ scientific pursuits. They generally give results of planets whom they conjoin or of their dispositor. They behave as Yogkaraka when they occupy a Kendra & associated with a Trikone lord or occupy a Trikone & associated with a Kendra Lord.

4.Retrograde Planets- As per Sh. mantreshwar a retrograde planet malefic or benefic if in a Kendra / Trikona becomes super strong and super powerful. He then helps the native in every possible way for his self improvement and also for taking him to the top atleast for a short while. But these planets in 3 / 8 / 12 houses,
