For the record, let’s look at some quick facts about certain current transits. Mars stations retrograde on September 9 at 28 Aries. Jupiter stations direct on September 12 at 17 Capricorn. Saturn stations direct early on September 29 at 25 Capricorn. Pluto stations direct on October 4 at 22 Capricorn.
In general, a direct station indicates that the transiting planet will shift its emphasis from internal to external, while the retrograde station indicates a shift from external to internal. But note the “in general” in that statement; the matter requires a closer look, particularly in reference to Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. And as for Mars, his retrograde periods often seem full of external conflicts, so what gives?
Any planet outside of earth’s orbit makes its opposition to the Sun close to the middle of its retrograde period. When dealing with oppositions, we often find that a person will play the role of the planet closest to the Sun and project into the world the planet furthest from the Sun. So during the Sun-planet oppositions from Mars, Saturn, and Pluto, we. If they appear in the external world, shouldn’t we say the opposite? Alas, gentle readers, for the twovalued thinking encouraged by such binary terms as – and also by, in your columnist’s humble opinion, that most unfortunate of words, “is”!
