The Office Love Promotion - Russel Ison

    Chapter 1

    The Luv Company

Ablack and darkly tinted, yet shiny Ford F-150 arrived in front of the small, yet beautiful building of Luv Incorporated. The building was actually just a very big two story old provincial style mansion which the owners of the Luv company have brought from a seller who was once a multimillionaire.

The Luv Building or the Luv Mansion as what its employees more famously called it, showed the excellent taste of its once multimillionaire owner. The gardens were meticulously manicured. It was adorned with beautiful flowers and other plants. Ornamental trees lined the courtyards. There was a big fountain in front of the mansion which made the mansion distinctly elegant.

The Ford F-150 parked at it’s reserved spot. The door on the driver’s side opened and a foot wearing jeans and black shiny cowboy boots emerged. Seconds later, the driver of the Ford F-150 fully emerged. He wore a white long sleeved shirt and sunglasses. He was clean shaven, but is ruggedly handsome for his age of about mid thirties.

He is Scott Cummings, one of the co-owners of Luv Incorporated. A full service online dating agency. He removed his sunglasses and looked at the modern sign of his company which was prominently shown near the front double doors of the mansion. He begins to reminiscence. He was just then another struggling businessman selling office furniture with little success.

Who could have known that there are many people who wanted to find the loves of their lives?

He touched his company sign and smiled, I can still remember back then. I was going nowhere, but thanks to my buddies always asking me for dating advice, I got the idea to set up an online dating site. Now I’m the owner of the largest online dating site.

He then heard the sound of a screeching car behind him. He knows who the driver of the car is.

He sighed, Correction, the co-owner of the largest online dating site.

The car which screeched behind him just a few minutes ago was a bright red new Porsche. It now quietly parked in the parking spot beside him. The car door opened. A leg wearing expensive red high heels appeared.

Seconds later, a woman who is in her late twenties appeared. She was wearing a tight knee length black dress and also wore sunglasses. The pearl necklace she wore and her Beehive hairstyle which was adorned by a shimmering small tiara made the impression that she was trying to emulate the late actress Audrey Hepburn. She was Karla Cummings, the other co-owner of the company.

She walked towards the double front doors of the mansion while Scott looked at her with a frown in his face.

Hello Scott, you’re looking as drab as usual.

And you look like a gold digger as usual, Karla.

She laughed, I might be a gold digger, but I’m the one who actually made you rich.

You’re still insisting that you deserve half of my company, Karla?

It’s not your company, Scott. It’s our company. You own half and I own the other half.

What would make you sell your part of the company to me, Karla?

I told you, Scott. This company is as much mine as it is yours. I won’t let it go even for all the money in the world.

You’re only holding out because you want to spite me, Karla. I know it. Take my offer, it’s a generous one.

And why would I take your offer? I’m already earning enough as it is. Besides, this company is my baby. I was the one who raised it. You just thought of the idea.

I’ll admit that a lot of your ideas really made my company grow, but I was the one who managed to keep the company together even during the bad days.

You’re speaking like you’re the only owner of the company. Again, I repeat, it’s our company. You own half and I own the other half.

Scott’s mobile phone rang. He distanced himself from Karla.

Karla did not wait for Scott so that they could continue their conversation. She went inside the mansion. The inside of the mansion was just like any contemporary office. Modern office desks, chairs and cabinets littered the first floor. The only thing different were the marble floors and the occasional antiquities decor which blended with the mansion’s design.

The employees were busily staring and typing at their computers and only paused when she walked by. They would then greet her just like the way employees greeted their bosses anywhere. She would just nod and smile at her employees in response to their greetings. Occasionally, she would glance at her back to see if Scott is following her, but he wasn’t.

She then went up to the marbled stairs towards the second floor of the mansion. The second floor of the mansion was very different from the first floor. The second floor was filled with more antiquities and was carpeted with middle eastern designs.

She walked to her expensive and ornate wooden office desk and sat at her big and expensive leather office chair. She sat and turned her office chair so that she was facing the big glass window which has views of the large garden and fountain in front of the mansion. She arched her back and raised her arms above her.

Damn Scott, he really wants me to sell my share of the company to him. Well, damn if I do. I’ll never sell. This company is as much mine as his.

She turned her office chair so that she was facing her office desk. She saw the document which Scott handed to her. It was Scott’s proposal to buy the company from her. She read the contents once again.

His price is very tempting. With this money, I don’t have to worry about money even if I continue to live my expensive lifestyle.

She then looked at the many framed pictures which adorned the walls of her office. A few of these pictures contained images of the company when she and Scott were still working out of a cheap office building.

Those were happier days before we got so engrossed in running the business that we lost touch with each other.

She opened the drawer of her desk. She took out a picture of her and Scott enjoying their vacation in an Asian beach back when they were still married. They’re divorced now and if not for the company which they co-owned, they would hardly keep in contact with each other.

Scott’s office is in front of her office, but she hardly comes there. Scott likes to keep his office door closed while she likes to keep her office door open. As a result, she’s more popular with their employees. Her employees have no trouble coming to her office to talk to her. She mostly concentrates on the advertising, marketing and sales for the company while Scott concentrated on administration, accounting and technology.

These roles suited the divorced couples’s personality. She was a people person and enjoys interacting with her employees and the other people involved with their company. Her ex-husband meanwhile enjoyed the efficient running of a business. He hardly talks to his employees, but when he does, they know it’s important.

She switched on her sound system and it played contemporary pop music. She then opened her laptop and started to read her e-mails. She was about to read an e-mail with a title which contained the word ‘urgent’ when she felt aching in her feet.
