Dedication
This book is for those who dare to feel. To be naked in your truth is an act of courage and bravery. To unmask and face your pain and past mistakes is a far bolder act than a coward’s flight into denial. To all my warriors: your hearts were so big that the narcissist tried to cut them. You felt like you lost pieces of yourself. Face your pain. Reclaim your heart. Take an inward journey with me and maybe together we can take back the love we thought we lost.
I want to thank my parents for showing me what a healthy, loving, committed relationship looks like. I want to thank my twin sister Jessie for showing me that there are so many different ways love can be expressed. I want to thank my grandparents for always believing in my dreams and ambitions. I want to thank my best friends, Colleen, Erin, Jackie, Melissa, and Melanie for always providing a listening ear and support when I experienced heartbreak after heartbreak. Thank you for being true friends. Lastly, I want to thank the men who have hurt me. Why am I thanking you? Many of the poems in this book could not have been created without the pain you inflicted. Although heartbreak is not a pleasant feeling by any means, my poetry serves as an example of how the most beautiful things can still come out of the most tragic.
Introduction
The title, My Origami Heart, represents how a person’s emotional heart can be crumpled and folded, but remains a work of art. Past relationships or experiences may crumple or fold you, but you can decide what shape you will become.
