A CHILD’S FEAR
(BRIEF SYNOPSIS)
A child begs to stay home from school. Kennedy’s sick. No stomach ache. No sore throat. She’s sick with fear? An epidemic of fear has gripped the children of Freedom Elementary School. Learning on this inner-city campus is an impossibility as neighborhood children are dropping dead- victims of drive-by shootings.
Kaila, Kennedy’s mother, worries about her child.
Ashley a mother, worries about her child’s prospects for the future. Both mothers feel helpless, but education is a must. The school officials at Freedom Elementary are helpless to stop the violence. The police are burned out and confused. Kennedy sparks a class discussion in which the students agree to form an anti-gang
named Vision of Hope to confront the various youth sets
that are terrorizing the community. The ides snowballs when teachers, police and parents follow the children lead.
The newly formed Vision of Hope has an immediate impact on the problem. But not soon enough. One of Kennedy’s classmates loses his life when the violence invades his home. The crisis is overwhelming, yet the children naive idealism proves stronger when Vision of Hope members win over the gang banger, key leadership and help forge a gang truce.
While adults pragmatically search for answer in our inner-city communities the future seems all but doomed. But it takes a child’s fear to overcome helplessness and become a beacon by which a path of hope is lit. A Child’s Fear is a gripping tale of faith overcoming despair and optimism overcoming apathy. A tale for the family that can uplift as well as entertainment.
