    Am I Next ?

    M ichelle couldn’t help but to feel worried in a neighborhood where someone is killed or shot everyday by someone of the same race. Every time I made it to school or home I would say the word Safe in my head. I mean it really feels like I’m running a marathon for life every day, while traveling to and from any destination in Chester, Pa. I wish I never watched the news the day of Sandra Blands’ arrest and death because I’m supposed to visit my family in the same state come summer. The report gave me a whole new cause for worry after Trayvon Martins death.

    Police are killing us without proper grounds and are getting away with it. I’m only thirteen years old, I shouldn’t be worried about any police officer who took an oath to protect and serve their community. I’m a female who fears her own race and police officers. I can’t help but to ask am I next in either situation. Many are killed as an innocent bystander when it comes to the streets. Many are killed by police officers for being an African American male or female across the country.

    I do plan on attending college and having a life outside of Chester Pa. I have an essay due and I choose the title AM I NEXT?, because my
