Introduction
My Journey
began in early January of 2011 when I, after losing my wealth over the last 3 years, found myself homeless. I lived in an abandoned house that was in the repossession process, with no running water and most of the time without electricity. I was using the local grocery store as my facilities
and existing on about 500 calories a day. During the 5 months I was in this situation I lost over 40 pounds.
Even though the physical aspect of being homeless was very uncomfortable it was not the worst part. The worst part was that I woke up each morning with no hope – no way in which I could see how my situation was going to change. I was angry, frustrated, frightened and very much alone with no way out.
Let me share with you a little about my life and what brought me to this place. I believe that will help you see the true shock I felt at being in this position.
I grew up in an upper middle class family in the Northwest. My Dad owned his own business and we were a well to do
family although I did not realize it while I was growing up. I graduated from college and joined the Navy. I was a Naval Aviator and over the period of my time as a pilot in Vietnam and as a flight instructor I made over 300 carrier landings.
Upon leaving the Service I went into the corporate world and had a very successful career ending up owning my own consulting business that generated a very substantial income during the 15 years I operated it. In 2007 I retired with great expectations for my future. It was at this time that I started down the path that was to lead me to homelessness. In 2006 and
