About this ebook

The way we view religion today has changed immensely, and increased access to technology has led to a businesslike presentation of evangelism to the masses. Competition is strong with grassroots churches vying for larger buildings in order to accommodate expanding congregations, and money has become an important factor. However, the way in which money is obtained has become questionable.

In Its Not for Sale, author Karl A. Grosvenor provides us with an insightful commentary on the monetary focus of todays megachurches and televangelists, which have often promoted tithing and donations rather than concentrating on the spiritual needs of the people. Grosvenor refers to the ultimate source of truththe Bibleto caution those who blindly trust their money to televangelists, helping them to understand what God himself says about tithing, contributions, and the design and growth of the church.

The church is swiftly becoming a vast marketplace with divisions that once stood between different faiths now serving as connections for the advancement of unity and economic success. Yet Christians and church leaders must stay vigilant against putting a price on salvationfor the blood of Christ is freely given and not for sale.

In this book Karl Grosvenor provides us with an excellent, insightful, thoroughly researched and well-presented commentary on the monetary focus of todays megachurches. His concern for people of all economic and ethnic backgrounds who attend these churches and support them with their tithes was echoed in a speech by Michael Eric Dyson on the 50th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr. This is a must-read for everybody, cautioning those who blindly trust their money to these televangelists, and advising them to refer to the ultimate source, the truth - the Bible, in light of this evolution of the function of the church in our society.

    Foreword

My name is Sharon Grosvenor. I am a registered nurse. My bachelor of science in nursing and master of arts in business administration have eminently qualified me for my position as assistant director of nursing at the largest hospital in Brooklyn, New York, where I have worked for many years.

I am extremely proud to have met the author of this book, Karl Grosvenor, on a Sunday night after a church service, where he preached a sermon entitled After All This, Then What? This meeting led to the best thing that ever happened to me: he asked for my hand in marriage, to which I immediately replied, "Yes. Thank you, Karl, for the portion of your acknowledgment which states, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to my dear wife Sharon Rose, who has been the driving force behind my decision to write this book, for her encouragement and dedication in helping me with its completion."

Karl Grosvenor holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and has a vast amount of knowledge in church dealings. He was very active in his church work as an authorized preacher, vice president of the young people’s society, and member of the church choir. He once collaborated with his president to organize an all-night prayer meeting. He wrote and, with his president, directed a play for the church’s zone meetings. He has delivered countless sermons to church congregations.

In this book, he paints a vivid picture of the church and the way it has grown from its grassroots stage to a massive organization, its beliefs and teachings about tithing, its businesslike operating methods, and the manner in which it obtains its financial support. While his intent is not to sway anyone from personal belief or to cast a negative light on any religious organization, the hope is that this book will help readers understand why he believes that some evangelists today have misrepresented and continue to misrepresent the meaning of tithing and its purpose, while enriching themselves with fancy cars, jets, and multimillion-dollar homes.

    Preface

I have had the privilege of shopping at many retail establishments, seeking an item of quality, yet priced at an affordable level that would allow me to make a purchase.

Very often, items are advertised as being on sale. Some businesses, for example in the pharmaceutical industry, advertise these items to influence customers to try the products. However, when we read the labels, we would find the words "Not for sale."

    Acknowledgments

I would like to express my deepest appreciation and indebtedness to all my relatives, friends, and others who, in one way or another, shared their support in the completion of this book.

I wish to express my sincere gratitude to my dear wife Sharon Rose, who has been the driving force behind my decision to write this book, for her encouragement and dedication in helping me with its completion.

Above all, thanks to God Almighty for His help and strength, and to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who paid for our sins with His blood.
