My Life in a Poem - Noaella Eley Bryant
My Twins Are Boys
(DATE WRITTEN 4-4-15)
My twin brother looks just like me
And now we both are at age three
People crowd around us to see us do the split
Dance and rap our greatest hit
We attend Langstead Elementary School
Then we went home and jump in our pool
Everyone calls us the class clowns
Because we jump and dance around
We were never able to keep still
We jump from chair to chair and did a quart wheel
We switch our shoes and jackets and went into each other classes
We went to school and never wore our glasses
Before we were born we fought over who would come first
Then an emergency C-section was plan so mother wouldn’t burst
We wasn’t the average twin birth weight
Being close to seven pounds and past our due dates
Around three months we pulled each other’s hair
Made people in the public just wanted to stare
At six months we were biting each other
I guess that was part of being twin brothers
One year old walking and pulling each other feet to fall
And then our heads will hit the wall
Where Do I Go
(DATE WRITTEN 4-4-15)
Being seventeen with a burden of a baby
Still going to High School and College maybe
Was put out of mom’s house and ended up with my dad
Which I thought at first wouldn’t be half as bad
Dad sold earrings, purses, and watches downtown
He even had some hats sitting on the ground
When I got to his house, the lights were cut off
I had to make bottles to put in my baby’s mouth
We woke up and her bottle nipples were swollen
All my money out my purse was stolen
We were sleeping on the living room floor
I’m looking up at the open front door
I got up and headed to the back
And to my surprise dad and his friends were smoking crack
I grab my baby and pack my bags to leave
Walking down the street in eighty degrees
The sun on my back beaming hard was what I felt
Feeling like me and this baby would melt
Not having anywhere really to go stay
I really needed somewhere to lay
I walk up to some apartments and filled out the application fast
The lady told me I’m now on housing and I’m home at last
I walked inside with my baby and bags
And went to sleep because tomorrow was class
Project Apartments
(DATE WRITTEN 4-5-15)
You look at me with so much jealousy
You are a disgrace to the whole community
You a porch monkey that sits and stares at me
You need
