About this ebook
Ive divided my book into four basic colors that reflect upon emotional reactions to everyday events. These colors are:
yellow, which represents the bold and dynamic events that might reflect happiness.
blue, which represents the mysterious and dreamy periods in our lives.
gray, which represents the lonely, depressing feelings possessed by each of us at one time or another in our daily existence.
red, which represents deep passion and love, emotions that are necessary for all living beings in order to thrive and grow from day to day.
You are about to experience some of my personal perceptions of these periods in our lives and the emotions and feelings connected with them. The philosopher who coined the ironic phrase There is no substitute for experience has certainly shared many of these emotions and feelings. Perhaps you will relate to some of these all-too-familiar feelings and emotions while reading these poems.
Lula Springs
As a girl, Lula Springs was fascinated by poetry. She was inspired by Phillis Wheatley, Langston Hughes, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Gwendolyn Brooks and the writers, musicians, and artists of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920's. Lula published her first poem as a child. She completed her education at St. Mary's University and became a high school English teacher.

YELLOW
DSC00042.tifPrayer of the Common Man
As the latent sun slowly sets,
I think of all I might have done:
And Yet,
I’m glad to see the sun go down
And climax this endless day
With such a golden crown.
I could have made the grade today;
Instead, I helped one who’d gone astray.
I could have made my life richer by millions;
Instead, I gave away warm smiles to billions
Of people who passed my way
Throughout the many hours of the day.
I see in each bright shining star
The will of those who will go as far
As the Love, Hope and Might
In a crippled child who’s won the fight
Against the presence of such profound
Evil –with results that amazingly astound.
Yes, and let it be said,
That this common man, living not dead,
Would rather fill each minute of my day
Full of Joy and Happiness in every way
