About this ebook
From poet Gillian Lee, comes a collection of poems that explores the many facets of human emotions-from self-love, familial love and romantic love to expressing love into the wider world. It also takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery, expressing the foibles and strengths of the human condition. The poems serve as a powerful reminder that we are central to our individual existences, and it's only from excavating this "garden" of the self that transformation becomes possible.

In My Garden There's Just Me - Gillian Lee
A Woman^s
Rite of Passage
There must be an ancient crypt
etched in stone:
A Woman’s Rite of Passage.
It’s a woman’s rite of passage
to fall deeply in love and
have her heart ruthlessly ravaged
It is written, it’s her rite of passage…
to be all she can be
but have someone tell her contrary
It’s documented somewhere,
It must…
She has to learn there are few,
if anyone, she can trust.
It reads…
She is not a woman if life does not let
her experience more than
she thinks she can bear.
It’s the truth!
It’s documented! I swear…I swear…
and no woman shall be spared.
I believe it is so…
because I have yet to meet
the woman who told me no.
A Wish
A wish is something you really don’t want
A wish is something that is used to taunt
It is a tease
it embodies what they want to hear
but leaves them hanging…begging,
Yes, please, please, please…
A wish is a fairy-tale,
that Cinderellas and Snow Whites believe in
and what Trolls and Goons use
to sugar-coat the darkness that lies within.
A wish is like a good intention
Paving stones of the road to hell
So wishes never seem to lead you
anywhere as far as I can tell.
Classifieds
Wanted…
Someone to show concern
to aaaaall my sighs.
Someone to love my tummy,
my hips, my thighs.
Wanted…
Someone to appreciate
and nourish my brain
Someone to never cause me
emotional or physical pain.
Wanted…
Someone who wants to be wanted
by just meeeee,
and not by she, and she, and she
And she.
Dear Daughter
I take time to write, and to let you know
how much you mean to me.
Without you, the option is insanity.
When I could not breathe, you were my air.
When I could no longer hide my tears,
Only you cared.
You are my world, and I always want
the best for you, and I guess he
wants that too.
You are such a strong and beautiful
girl, yet sometimes, I feel
I have let you down.
I do not know if I am preparing you well
for life on Earth
Which sometimes, I swear is hell.
I just wanted you to know,
and sometimes it does not seem
