“Dapper Don”: A Self Made Mob Boss

About this ebook
Mr. Andrew (Yie) Roberts
Mr. Roberts imagination is beyond imagining. He has quite an imagination. If you’ve read or seen Coojo, you’d love reading, even seeing, Pitts on screen. Coojo is a puppy compared to the Pitts. I seriously recommend it as a must read and see. No disrespect to Mr. Stephen King for he is truly the master of horror stories. A very touching story of love, betrayal, murder, and excitement; it is also horrific. I find Mr. Roberts’s A Tale of Two Short Stories a double pleasure to read. And if I saw it on film, I’d see it twice. Especially Pitts. No, Dapper Don. No, both.

Chapter One
What’s A Don?
Galleria Mall!
Shouted the conductor as the train approached the next stop. The Galleria Mall is located on the Greenline of the MBTA in Cambridge north of MIT and east of Harvard University.
Come on Dontai, this is our stop,
Mrs. Salvati said as she led her son off the train. Walking to the mall they shared small talk, well, as much as a mother and her 13 year old son could have. Dontai chatted on about his classmates and upcoming football games. And as always Mrs. Salvati asked about his grades. A topic Dontai would have rather passed on. At the lip of the mall was a news stand stuffed with all the latest fashion, gossip, and car magazines. Newspapers both local and international. One in particular caused him to linger and gawk at the photo of a handsome man with a head full of salt & pepper hair and chiseled features.
Dontai what are you doing?
Asked Mrs. Salvati.
Nothing, just looking at this magazine.
What magazine?
She asked.
I don’t know. Who is this?
Dontai pointed to the handsome man on the cover magazine.
Who?
Him,
He picked up the magazine. "It says his name is John Fazio.’
Oh,
Mrs. Salvati said, John Fazio
she repeated.
Who’s John Fazio Ma? Dontai asked
"A mob boss?
What’s a mob boss?"
It’s well, ah, how can I explain?
She paused, A mob boss is a person who is in charge of organized crime.
What’s organized crime?
Dontai you ask too many questions,
Mrs. Salvati said as she picked up the latest issue of a soap opera magazine. Thumbing through the magazine that was saying good bye to the stars of One Life To Live, she tried her best to explain to her son about organized crime.
Dontai Listened intently. Usually the talks he had with his mother he could take or leave them, but this was one topic he was definitely interested in. Mrs. Salvati explained the best she could to her son about organized crime, and while she was, Dontai was visualizing himself as a top mob boss. Yeah, Don Dontai Salativi, he thought to himself.
**********
So, how shall I begin Mr. Fazio?
Asked Dontai. First kid, you have to know if you got it or not. I mean, if you aint got it then you ain’t got it. Capisce?
How do I know if I got it or not Mr. Fazio?
For-get-about-it kid you don’t have it.
Fazio turned his nose up as if he smelled something bad.
Huh. Well, how do you know?
Dontai was alarmed.
Because kid, you’d just know,
Fazio was calm.
I do have it Mr. Fazio, I do have what it takes, and I’ll show you.
Dontai looked into the eyes of his magazine friend.

Dontai, are you up and ready for school?
His mother asked.
Yes Ma, here I come.
He answered as he made his way to the kitchen.
Dontai, why do you have on your Sunday suit?
Because I want to look nice in school from now on, is that okay?
He answered politely.
Uh, yes, yes it’s fine with me, just hurry up and eat, you’re gonna be late.
Dontai dug into his bowl of Lucky Charms cereal.
What’s gotten into him? Mrs. Salvati thought.
While Dontai stood at his bus stop waiting for his school bus some of the kids made fun of him.
I thought it was Wednesday,
one of the kids said.
It is,
another one said.
Well why he got on his Sunday best?
He laughed pointing at Dontai’s outfit. His laughter caused all the other kids to laugh along with him.
Every dog has its day, Dontai thought as he just stared at the kid who started all the ruckus. Dontai made sure to lock eyes with the so-called leader of the pack. No words were needed.
Ah, uh, why you staring at me like that?
The boy asked.
Excuse me. Was I staring at you?
Dontai smirked.
Uh, I mean, yeah.
How do you know?
Dontai asked.
Because I was–
Because you were what,
Dontai cut him off, because you were staring at me?
Uh,
The boy couldn’t muster an audible answer.
"So there, ask yourself, why were you staring at me, and you’ll know why I was staring at you." Dontai said not moving his eyes from the boy’s face.
I’m just saying I ain’t got no beef with you,
the boy said. His words lost volume as his sentence ended. Dontai believed the boy had lessened his volume to maintain what little dignity he thought he had. So Dontai also decided to let him have it. But the damage had already been done. Even the other kids detected the fear Dontai injected into the boys heart. Which in turn, gave him a sense of respect from the other kids.
Dontai was sitting in the cafeteria of his school when he observed a small boy lacking a decent meal and the other kids making fun at him. Dontai always helped the
