    5 Questions - Darin Johnson

    Introduction

Along this journey of working on 5 Questions, I’ve met some great people who took a risk. Here was this guy (me) asking them to answer a few questions for a book I wanted to put together. Five questions to be exact. You may be surprised at how many people said, No, gave me the look, or some who seemed initially interested but did not want their picture as part of an interview for any book this stranger was talking about. Because of these things, this endeavour became more challenging than I thought it would be. I knew my intention, but we also realize some are guarded nowadays more than once were. What seemed to be random meetings, became apparent to how important these meetings were. Both of us having a conversation about some exciting things, some important things, and some revealing things in their lives. Like most people during the day, we usually do walk past one another without regard of those among us. However, in this instance, we were trusting each other that everything would be ok. And maybe just a little fun. At least life would be a bit different for the time being.

Some importance of this writing is for the many interviewees themselves as they bravely told their story with a stranger so others may possibly hear of the events and memories not often shared, having shaped their lives.

Some importance of this writing is for their families and friends so that what was shared will be realized of the influences they had as stories within these pages do declare.

And some of the importance will be for you, the broader reader and listener coming to an understanding of similarities with these others unknown.

Also noticed will be the differences among us that help shape our hearts to become kinder towards each and every one. Because that is how we want to be treated, isn’t it?

We all have beliefs, fond memories, and even our very own favorite color, from which we find meaning for one reason or another. Thanks to all interviewees for sharing, and also those reading this now. May our paths cross again someday.

Hi Brittany, I appreciate your time doing the interview. The first question for you, who has been one very important person in your life?

My mother. She helped me through a lot of things. I was a premature child, and I have a lot of challenges. She always keeps me encouraged, and she still helps me out.

Do you think Brittany, there is hope for this world?

Yes, there’s always hope. God gives us hope. So, as long as we believe in Him, there’s still hope. Yes, belief, it’s crucial. It’s important to believe in something. If you believe in nothing, then that’s where you have the problem.

What is your favorite memory from when you were a child?

It was spending time with my grandmother. She was very influential to me, as well. She used to let me sit on her lap and slide down her legs like on a slide. Especially when my cousins were over, and I really couldn’t do as much with my cousins, so yeah, that’s one big memory in my life.

How old were you when you remember that?

I was five. My grandma, she has 48 grandchildren, yep.

    Your grandmother has how many?

48 grandchildren. She has 12 children of her own.

And you’re the smiliest one of all the grandkids.

    I am. I’ll take that.

Do you believe there is a God, and why?

Yes, I believe there is a God because I read my bible, and I was taught that God exists. God shows his favor in my life every day. Everyday. Not only waking up in the morning but just giving me opportunity after opportunity after opportunity that I never saw coming. So God just opens doors that I never thought would be open.

    What’s your favorite color?

It’s purple because I’m a flower girl. I used to grow lilacs when I was little. Some are different colors, there’s also deep blue. Purple is my grandmother’s favorite color, though. I remember she came over when I was younger and fixed my room to be purple, so that made me feel like I was one of her favorites.
