About this ebook

Lamon Lindsay and Keith Hudson have come up with solutions to help kids deal with peer pressure. Teaching them at an early age how to approach lifes problems, make decisions and stand by them. Showing them how to become leaders instead of followers. Convincing them that listening to their parents comes before listening to the streets. Kids are not born with negative behavior. They learn negative behavior from peers, the streets and in our schools. Schools are supposed to be a place of learning, so we might as well teach them properly.
This is what the book Dosomething Think First does. How can our kids deal with peer pressure when theyve never been taught how? Now with the first and the only book of its kind theres help, and a solution for our kids. If we dont start a change now it will only get worse.

Lamon Lindsay

My name is Lamon Lindsay, I went to school at Northern High on the North End but Lived on the west side where I went to Hutchinson Jr. High. I hung out on 12th street, one of the fastest strips in Detroit Michigan. I hung out most of the time with my older brother so I had to keep up. By me being the smallest and the youngest, I had my rounds of peer pressure. I went to prison at eighteen and that was just the first time. I went through the revolving doors of prison until the ages of thirty eight, so I consider myself having a doctorate degree in peer pressure. Once I finished prison and became conscious of life, I had a daughter, she became my life and kept me on a straight and narrow as best I could. My daughter and I are the best of friends. I raised her mostly on my own, by her mother being in school. My daughter had her share of school problems but we came through in flying colors and that’s what it took, both of us. So I can tell you first hand that it takes a lot of time, which most parents don’t have due to work or whatever. That’s why the ‘Dosomething Think First’ book is so important. For the past six years I’ve gotten into Child Mentoring, and this program is the only one of its kind that I know of. ‘Dosomething.’

    INTRODUCTION

My name Is Lamon Lindsay, I’d like to explain the importance of what I realized in my five years of child mentoring. This book is not just a story; it’s a lesson that parents and kids desperately need. It teaches kids how to deal with peer pressure and life’s problems while growing up. Everyone is always asking what is going on with our children? Well, a big problem is the adults stop teaching, or don’t know what to teach. Children learn how to deal with problems from what they hear on the streets, on school play grounds, and whatever the going thing is.

I work at two schools in Detroit; a first and middle school. The name of my program is ‘Dosomething’. I ask kids questions that most of them have never been asked before, and then give them an answer and explanation for that answer. I know that these are questions and answers that they should get at home, but too often that doesn’t happen. So that’s one reason for child mentor programs. But two schools are not enough. ‘Dosomething’ is the only program of its kind. The ‘Dosomething’ program helps change children’s way of thinking, and it works. It needs to be in all schools and homes, and it’s also a useful guide for parents. That’s why I wrote the book ‘Dosomething; Think First’. This book is designed to help children deal with most problems they will encounter while growing up. Bullying, gangs, drugs, and so forth. It won’t solve all of life’s problems, but it will give them other options than the ones they learn on the play grounds and streets. It will show them how to be leaders, instead of followers, and how to make good decisions.

    DEDICATIONS

I’d like to dedicate this book to all the parents who have lost a child due to peer-pressure, and apologize for this book not being added into our school curriculum sooner.

Also, to my dearly departed Mother and Father who I’ll always love and will never forget.

To Miss Marshall and Wanda Dell-Reese at Dixon Academy, First and Middle School, and Dossin Elementary in Detroit.

Also to Kietric Jenkins and Sydrena Smith of Logical Choices. To the boys in the Logical Choice Program for attending and wanting to prepare themselves for the traps awaiting them. Also to all my friends and all the other people that had the vison to recognize how badly we need the Dosomething Think First Program into our schools.

Finally, thank GOD for giving me the vison and the drive to pursue a helpful positive solution to peer pressure. And last but not least to my daughter Tyra Lindsay,
