FOREWORD

When Aidy first mentioned the idea of putting a publication together in honour of His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, 2015, it sounded nice but inwardly I laughed and wondered how a busy working-mum would be able to joggle all of that within a distinctively short period.

I could not openly express my fears to her; rather, words of encouragements ensued. How could I have discouraged her when I knew she needed an elephant’s strength to pull through?

Creative writing is Aidy’s delight; she’s played with words over time enough to form a colony for each man yet the birth of this title expresses her precise approach and apt attention to detail wrapped with ability to spot fountain while others scramble for a glass.

So many people were present at the event where His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel made the statement When God calls; He qualifies during his thanksgiving service after being appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in 2013 but the eagle-eyed Aidy did not only hear a statement, she saw a whole brand new publication springing forth- what a talent!

Her ability to capture faith, politics, diligence and the significance of destiny as exquisite components of a man’s success, fulfilment and self actualisation is deeply intriguing.

The title is basically faith- derived but the total package is a mix of faith, parenting skills, motivational leads and life-coach hue; a must read for anyone with great hopes.

Although Aidy is inclined to using anecdotes (as reflected in her other publications), this piece seems to be a little different with just one or two in sight. The message is put in very clear, simple and straight forward language capable of serving it’s very purpose- being read and understood.

An experienced author knows when and how to capture her audience and this is what Aidy has succinctly grasped.

Placing the responsibility of being successful not just on parents or others challenges young people to arise and invest their time wisely. Parents have a part to play but you have yours too- Aidy enthused.

Real family ‘stories’ about His Excellency leaves you with no doubt that Aidy knows exactly where he is coming from- who else would have done this?

I am honoured to write this foreword as a former Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State (September 1990-Jan 1992)who understands the challenges and demands of leadership, I believe Udom would be able to continue in the uncommon transformation the State has so far experienced. I believe he is ‘RIGHT’ for this call.

I wish His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel a fulfilling and peaceful tenure.

BOOK SUMMARY

His Excellency, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has become a household name in Akwa Ibom State political structure. Coming from his shrewd corporate banking background as an Executive Director of Zenith bank Plc to the seat of State governance is an historic endeavour.

He sees his change of career as a call from God. There was an initial shock because the people have been so blinded by the culture of ‘career politicians’ being in charge of government. A deviation from the ‘normal’ made the whole thing interesting as different people expressed their value for how and what true governance should be. One class believed a technocrat would be beneficial to the masses- to continue the uncommon transformation already enjoyed in the State while a handful of others maintained power should rivet around the putrid agenda of recycled politicians who do not have the people’s interest at heart.

The axiomatic supporters finally won while the petulant others bowed in shame as Udom was announced the winner of the gubernatorial election, 2015.

The book When God calls; He qualifies is a story of God’s choice over man’s speculations: the manifestation of reward for excellence as a man distinguishes himself in service: interwoven with self discipline and good parental influence.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS WITH GOD

Belonging to the God who owns and keeps the universe is an amazing privilege. If people of the world and even some Christians knew what it means to be a member of God’s army, their lives will indeed take a different shape.

Being the creator of world; the closest man can do to catch a glimpse of His position is to appreciate the importance or authority of a manufacturer of products. Every product is conceived, designed, produced, distributed and protected by the manufacturer; directly or otherwise. This leaves them with no choice than to accompany it with a manual to guide those who would later purchase or come in contact with their creation- the products.

It’s now clearer when we say that no one else knows us better and deeper than God our creator. I once met a Caribbean single mum who had a very difficult and troublesome son. The Doctors had earlier diagnosed him to have ‘Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder’ (ADHD). Within the first year of starting school, he changed schools over three times because the system could not cope with his excesses.

To say the mum was worried is an understatement and total play-down of the situation. When she met me and narrated her ordeal, my first response was; ‘Have you spoken to his creator?’ He’s got all the answers to your agitation and concerns. She looked lost: what do you mean? She demanded. I then took time to explain to her that God who creates every being should always be contacted for their challenges; He knows them better and can handle all things.
