In Search of The Book Of Creation - John J. Higgins

    CHAPTER ONE

It was another sunless morning when the Archangel Luciferael sat down on the throne of his Pandemonium Palace of the lowest Pit of Hell. He scanned the room and addressed the assembly of Fallen Rebel Angels.

Any progress locating the missing Book of Enoch and the deciphering Crystal? Luciferael asked as his gaze focused on his second in command, the Archangel Sammuael.

    Possibly, my lord.

Have we found another Human? Luciferael asked.

We may have found one, my lord. the Archangel Mephistophael responded. One who wants our help, a willing Seeker.

    Sammuael smiled.

Glorious news. the Archangel Beelzebael added. We haven't had a Seeker in generations. May this one survive and succeed in our quest, or die in its pursuit.

The other three Rebel Archangels of Luciferael's inner circle, Damiel, Suriel, and Mammonael, collectively known as the Auxilium, perked up as they joined Sammuael in their respective chairs around Luciferael on the raised dais.

Those mud creatures are a terrible disappointment, even more so to the Almighty. What a great consolation. Why He thought they would ever be better than us still eludes me. Luciferael said.

Or that they were comparable to us as the First Born of Heaven, magnificent in light, Sammuael said as he opened his wings, stretching out to his twenty-foot wingspan.

Yes, those creatures tied to a patch of dust on a minor planet in a minor solar system. I miss those days in the Creation, stars, planets, galaxies. Suriel looked into the distance as he was running those memories through his mind.

They can't fly or transform themselves, they are cursed with death, they grow old and feeble, and they need to prepare to bury their carcasses to rejoin the dust of the Earth, Beelzebael said with disdain.

Now that we may have a candidate, how do we best recruit him to our cause? Mephistophael asked, shifting his purple-tipped wings as he leaned forward.

Yes, the last ones have failed so miserably, my lord Luciferael. What can we do to ensure success? Beelzebael asked.

We need to make the bait better, tempt the Human beyond his reservations and control. Sammuael added, Who should take the lead in this?

I volunteer, the Archangel Damiel said as he rose from his chair and moved into the center area in front of the collected raised chairs for the Archangels. As Ruler of the First Pit of Hell, we punish the Human souls committed for their sins dealing with lust. I may be the best to handle this one. A powerful human emotion that requires some special handling, especially in its beginning stages. Besides, I have the perfect approach.

You have reviewed the history of the Human candidate, lord Damiel? Luciferael asked as he leaned backward in his throne.

Yes, my lord. He is of the direct bloodline of Enoch the Scribe from the earliest days. And only a descendant can break the code. I've watched this Human for quite some time. I believe he has the talents, the will, and the desire to find the trail of the missing items. And he is insecure with a lust issue, an inherent mud creature weakness, this compulsion to reproduce.

When do you begin? Luciferael asked.

Immediately, my lord. I will plant some incentives. Humans like incentives.

Do it quickly and make it work. No need to draw the attention of the Loyal Angels up in the Heavens. Luciferael ordered.

Let's thank the Almighty for keeping them occupied in other things! Damiel added as they all laughed again.

    CHAPTER TWO

Damiel wasted no time recruiting the best souls to help in his mission. He left Luciferael's Pandemonium Palace in the Seventh Pit of Hell and flew upward until he returned to the First Pit.

Ah, the Underworld. The curse of our exile from Heaven, or perhaps our reward. I am now expert in punishing those Humans who committed acts of improper or immoral lusts, usually of the sexual persuasion but some that spread into other areas like gambling or worship of other pleasures for their own sake.

As Damiel landed in his palace, he summoned his Cherubim Angel in charge of the First Pit of Hell's Punitive Circle.

Each soul's placement corresponded to their predominant sins when sentenced to the Underworld. The more dangerous part of this assignment was putting a soul back into a body. It was rare that any of the souls in Hell
