    FOREWORD

Carmel’s passion for Jesus and the written Word of God are evident within this book, and for those who know her. This passion spills over into the way she lives her life with her family and those God brings into their lives.

We have been blest to be amongst those who have become part of her, and her husband’s life. We have found, especially during times of trouble, the pictures and words they have shared with us have truly been living and active; to sustain us especially during those times of trouble, so that we have been able to complete what we have been called, of God, to do.

Throughout this book’s pages the Word of God and creative art are being used to assist the reader to digest the riches they contain. Therefore, we encourage the reader to use this book, alongside their Bible, and to highlight and make living, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, what is otherwise only paper and ink. Then for you who revere the name of The Lord,

    Malachi 4 v2 (NIV)

…the ‘sun of righteousness’ will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall.

    INTRODUCTION

After I felt God’s lead to write my previous two books (as detailed on end pages), He then encouraged the writing of this book to explore the Names of Jesus and ponder on some of their meanings. By doing this, I have personally learnt many new things which I hope the reader shall also enjoy and benefit from.

The actual list of God’s names, as found in The Bible, is probably in-exhaustible! However, to give them consideration and review is such a blessing and delight. With this in mind, I have listed a number of references at the end of this book for further personal study and refection, as the reader desires.

‘SonRise’ itself reflects on the wonders of God’s Son who came to earth to show us what God is really like (John 1:18). When ‘The Son rose’ a heavenly light and fragrance was released to spread across the world and across all time.

    Luke 1:78 (Amplified)

Because of and through the heart of tender mercy and loving-kindness of our God, a Light from on high will dawn upon us and visit [us]

Today, Jesus continues to spread His heavenly scent through His People around the world, telling of God’s love to all mankind, which is received not by works but simply by His grace.

    2 Corinthians 2:14-15

. . . . God uses us to make the knowledge about Christ spread everywhere like a sweet fragrance. For we are like a sweet-smelling incense offered by Christ to God . . .

As always, my husband John and I thank all who have blessed our spiritual life over the years. Special thanks to our lovely fellowship, and our wonderful family who are a precious gift from God, full of encouragement and full of love.

I pray that the reader will begin to see how important you are to God, as The Son rises in your heart releasing His life, joy and peace to your soul.

    CHAPTER ONE

    What’s in a Name?

Throughout the Bible, names are found to have powerful meaning and significance. A name was often given as a promise from God of the purpose to be fulfilled in that person.

A name could sometimes be given to a child by its parents to relate some experiences encountered by the mother or father. On occasions, names were given to some children to convey a prophetic message from God to His People. Let’s consider a few examples:

    • ADAM and EVE: the birth of all mankind

The names of Adam and Eve had significant meaning. Adam is the Hebrew name for ‘man’ and has a similarity to the Hebrew name for ‘earth’. This is considered to be because The Bible says that Adam was formed from the dust of the earth, into which God breathed life, and thus he became a living being (Gen 2:7).

Eve is believed to be connected with a Hebrew word which means ‘to breathe’ and has similarities to another Hebrew word meaning ‘to live’. This is considered
