ABOUT THE AUTHOR

D amola Treasure Okenla is the President and founder of D’Avenue Life Encounters (D’ALE), a registered nonprofit organization, commissioned and dedicated to creating an enabling environment for all to encounter the Word of God for discovery and recovery. She also serves as the coordinator of Zion Prayer Network, a ministry dedicated to raising and equipping intercessors.

The Lord called Damola to minister to the downcast and brokenhearted in 1999. It was then, she began the ministry of connecting those lost in darkness to his glorious light—opening blind eyes, releasing prisoners, and emptying the dark prisons (Isaiah 42:6-7). She has since dedicated her passion toward this cause. She engages the ministry of the Word, and prayer helps to carry out this assignment.

Damola is a certified biblical counselor and a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. She holds a master’s in public administration and a postgraduate degree in theology from the Redeemed Christian Bible College as well as an advanced diploma in Christian counseling from Light University.

Since 1996, Damola has dedicated herself to raising prayer intercessors and leaders well equipped to intercede for the church and the nations. She facilitates trainings and prayer events for churches and groups throughout the United States, including a bimonthly prayer program in Chicago known as Life Encounters.

She authored New Song, a strategic prayer guide for believers ready to break free from the trials and challenges faced in the wilderness of life. She is available to speak, teach, or plan prayer events, including workshops, seminars, and conferences for Christian ministries across the United States. Damola is an ordained minister with the Redeemed Christian Church of God. She has coordinated the prayer ministry at Jesus House Chicago since 2004.

PREFACE

D ivine Connections: A Marital Prayer Guide and Tips is a by-product of D’Avenue Life Encounters (D’ALE) marital breakthrough prayer retreat, By the Well: Exploring the Dynamics of Divine Connections. The information in the book was first shared with the participants at that meeting.

The purpose of this book is to engage the force of prayer for securing a solid foundation for the building of a successful marriage. We will follow the example of Eliezer, Abraham’s servant, in getting a wife for Isaac in Genesis 24.

We do not know all things. But there is a God in heaven that knows it all. This is why we can never overemphasize the importance of prayer. The prophet Samuel would have missed a critical appointment by relying on feelings and appearance (1 Samuel 16) and not prayer. That is why God asks us to call on him. He will answer us and show us things we could never figure out on our own (Jeremiah 33:3).

Keep in mind, this is just a prayer guide, and it contains only a few tips for a good marriage. It does not substitute marital counseling. There are many resources outside this work that you can also refer to.

Divine Connections: A Marital Prayer Guide and Tips is specifically written to guide you to prayerfully and scripturally lay your marriage on a solid foundation.

Oftentimes, people call to ask for prayer points for marital breakthrough. This is an effort to help others seeking such support.

USING THE BOOK

•   Meditate on the scriptures corresponding with the prayer points listed.

•   Meditate on the tips provided in each chapter.

•   Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you through each prayer point. A prayer point can lead to many other prayer points if you allow the Holy Spirit to make intercessions for you (Romans 8:26).

This prayer guide contains prayer points for the married and those in courtship.
