I want to soar like a free bird exploring the wonders of life. I want to laugh from my belly and scream with joy. I want to create and inspire. I want to give love and receive love. I want life in all its abundance. I want to live and create a new song with lyrics of living.

Desaree Thompson is an emerging poet and writer with a passion for the oppressed, abused and neglected voices that exist within us, and especially those unseen heroes in Child Welfare System. Desaree has served foster youth for over 25 years in the private and public foster care system. She has facilitated Women’s Empowerment Groups and Independent Living Skills Workshops to empower youth to improve self-sufficiency. Her mission is to encourage others to live authentically as their true selves. Desaree’s motto is “Walk in your own shoes.” She lives in Elk Grove, California, with her husband of 30 years. .

Voices of My Soul is a compilation of poetry and words of expression penned as a therapeutic release and a mirror to reflect the impressions in my heart. I have pulled back the curtain of my own fears and imperfections to expose the depths of compassion and pain in my heart. Some of these writings flowed through me like a cool summer’s breeze while others came crashing upon my heart like water hitting rocks during a fierce winter storm. Throughout my life, I’ve learned that hurt people hurt others through their own pain, but in reality, everyone is seeking love and acceptance. I offer Voices of My Soul as a labor of love to compel others to question what’s deep inside their own hearts. I hope you will cry, laugh, heal, inspire, give, accept, forgive, reconcile, and ultimately move forward in love to change your life and someone else’s life. Be encouraged!
