About this ebook

My book is about seeing things and feeling them from my own perspective. In my book, I write not only my personal experiences but also how the experiences of those who are dear to me affect me. My poems are written to reach out to readers. I go deep within myself and expose my personal feelings and some experiences in hope that readers will relate and know they are not alone.

    A Glimpse Within - Khadija Al-Shangiti

    A Glimpse Within

    Paper thin,

    Is the layer you’ll find

    Between my soul and skin

    Flipping each page

    Of this worn-out book

    Damaged with age

    Twenty-two years

    Of hidden pain

    Caressing each crack

    Would you keep going?

    Would you turn back?

    Read me slowly

    Look in between the lines

    Licking your lips

    After each word

    Believe in what you’ve read

    Not what you’ve heard

    I let you pull back

    Every other layer

    Hoping that you care

    It’s where I am

    Where I’ve been

    I’m in no haste

    I won’t show you all

I just give you a taste

    I show you a layer

    So paper thin

    A part of me

    A glimpse within

    Sand

    You are broken glass

From fire you turned to ash

    Inside you burning flames

    A player with many games

    You feel like sand,

    Seeping through my fingers

    Out of my fragile hands

    You are extraordinary!

    Yet, yourself you cannot carry

What becomes of a grain of sand?

    Pearls and diamonds,

    Under sea and on
